I squinted in pain as my vision began to blur. I had lost a lot of blood, and I felt numb from the pain. I've practically shed my tears till the last drop, and right now it feels like I've run out of tears to shed anymore as I stared down at the evidence that I had just lost my unborn child.
My hands felt numb from the long pain of having the heavy metallic chain holding it up. The chains clanked as I struggled to hold on to life. The smell of blood, damp rock, dust, and creepy creatures invaded my senses as I endured solitude in the silent, dim dungeon.
A few hours ago, I returned from the hospital with my pregnancy test results, which showed that I was six weeks pregnant. Nolan has been away for that long and didn't bother to give me a call or pick up any of mine. But I didn't make a big deal out of it. He'll be back today, and I'll break the news of my pregnancy to him.
My excitement shattered when I got in, and I was greeted by the horrifying tension in the air. Disappointed, hurt, and irritated, Nolan accuses me of poisoning Devina, his sister, and without giving me a chance to explain myself, he locked me up in the dungeon and left me to bleed out till my last drop.
For the past three years, I have given my life to Nolan. I submitted completely to him, and I gave all I had to please him and his family in every possible way. Not only did I try to please him, but I loved him despite all the trials of hell he put me through. I never once let out words of complaint, yet he could only turn his back on me and his unborn child when we needed him the most.
He watched me cry in pain and bleed out until I could no longer feel the precious life of my child inside me anymore because he was told I poisoned his sister and it was only by luck that she had survived.
I told him about our child and pleaded for him to think about our child before making any rash decisions, but he didn't even blink, all because he believed the bastard child in Carissa's womb was his. He lets his true child die because he thinks he has another to fall back on. A child that isn't even his, to begin with.
The door to the dungeon suddenly opened, and Carissa suddenly walked in with a sinister smile lingering across her face.
"Hello, Friend," she grinned as she kept rubbing her protruding stomach with care, and all I could do was snarl at her. An act that caused her to laugh. It wasn't enough that she stole my mate and even pretended to be pregnant for him just to get rid of me, but she dared to come in here and mock me.
"What are you doing here?" I growled as loud as my voice could afford, and she laughed.
"Oh, I'm just here paying my last respects to the pack's criminal descendant. No one cares about your existence here, you know," she replied with an eye roll. "But I do..." She added as she undid the lid of the bottle she was holding.
It was a small bottle containing a liquid I knew nothing about. It could be poison for all I knew, but one sure thing was that Carissa wouldn't commit murder, would she?
Before I could process what was happening, she walked up to me, yanked my hair back, and deposited the content right down my throat.
"Now that's a good girl," she bellowed as I struggled to spit it out, only to find that a considerable amount was already deep down in my stomach.
As she paced around in front of me, I struggled to stay awake as the poison she made me consume began to kick in.
"Why are you doing this, Carissa? Does Nolan know you're doing this?" I managed to let out a gasp as I gasped for breath. My lungs burned for release, and so did my stomach; my head was spinning, and I couldn't think straight as pain shook my entire body.
"You're still delusional, thinking Nolan cares about you even to the point of death. You slut. Nolan doesn't care if you die or not, Violetta. He doesn't give a shit to a mere omega who betrayed him and even had an affair," she let out irritatedly, and although my heart was in complete shambles, it managed to break further as I looked away from her.
"You know, it's funny how we even crossed paths when it seems like all we came to life to do is put an end to each other," she laughed, and I couldn't hold back the cough that tore from my burning throat. Tears filled my eyes as I coughed out blood, and when I looked up at Carissa, she was smirking at me.
"A criminal will always be born by a criminal, don't you think? Your father was executed alongside your mother for plotting to kill Luna when she refused to sleep with him, and you were instantly turned into an omega because the king was too kind to kill you too. But here you are following the same path as your father, "she added.
"My father never tried to kill Luna, and I didn't poison Devina, nor did I have an affair," I replied barely over a hoarse voice, and she laughed.
"Of course you didn't, but who do you think will believe you when I say you did?" She broke the ice, and I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces as I glared at her in shock. "Oh, don't look at me that way; all evidence pointed at you, darling Violetta," she continued.
"You made everyone believe that I poisoned Devina?" I said, barely over a whisper, and she smiled broadly, pushing a strand of her hair back as if proud of herself.
"As for your father, it was my father who set him up with such atrocity so he could become the beta. Your dumb father doesn't deserve that position, and the kindest thing my father has ever done for your family is become friends with such a worthless wolf as your father," she laughed out loud as she stood again while adjusting her dress.
"Shocked? Don't be... There's a whole lot more," she said, and I simply stared at her in horror as she squatted in front of me.
"You were never a frail wolf or a weakling, Violetta. I have witnessed how perfectly you showcased your strength even at the age of 17, when you had no wolf, and it was then that I realized you're the Silvermoon Wolf the prophecy mentioned years ago. The incarnation of the moon goddess herself. You, my lowly omega friend, were the most powerful wolf in the pack, destined to rule us all and bring the pack to its best shape. I couldn't let that happen, so I poisoned your wolf ever since. She probably couldn't show up on your 18th birthday because she was as good as dead within you. That's why you've always felt her but could never shift."
"With me in the picture, you could never grow," she continued, and I stayed frozen on the spot as I stared in dismay.
"You lived like nobody because you had no idea of the power you possessed, and now you'll die the same way your parents did. Like a nobody whose name gets soiled and being punished for the crime of another," I kept staring, lost for words and in bewilderment as her words replayed in my mind all over again.
"That's more than enough to take to your grave, even if it isn't up to half of the games I've played with your life, sweetie. It was fun toying with your life and tormenting you straight to your death. Goodbye, little friend. Let's meet in the next life as masters and servants. If this was boring to you, maybe you'll be spared then." The tears I thought had dried began streaming down my burning face in sad flows.
I wanted to scream in hurt, anger, and betrayal, but I couldn't. I felt darkness creeping into my vision as my body slowly lost every form of life. I felt my body separate from my soul, and I realized it was the end.
I don't want to die. Not now, after finding out all of this. I would never find peace knowing my parents and child died so unjustly. I screamed into the endless darkness as bitter tears escaped me.
"This isn't fair. I can't die like this when I have so many regrets. I want justice for every damn thing I went through. If only the moon goddess would hear my prayer this once in my lifetime... Please, goddess, don't take me away. Carissa and Nolan can't get away with this." I cried desperately, and I felt a presence behind me as the abyss of darkness that surrounded me suddenly lit up.
I turned around to see the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life. Her beauty filled the darkness as she shone so brightly. I had to shield my eyes. Her ethereal glow showcased her fair skin and the most amazing eyes that could read souls. Her presence breathed purity, healing, and safety, as every word that left her lips was like a divine healing to my sorrowful heart.
"Violetta, child, your pain pricks my heart. Your cries have reached my ears, and I'm willing to grant a request of yours," she said elegantly, picking her words carefully, and I felt fresh tears escaping my eyes.
"I want justice. I want revenge, goddess. I want a second chance," I cried, and she smiled gracefully.
"I will grant your desires; I will send you three years back, and you'll put it to good use and get the justice you want for yourself because you deserve it."
"Violetta Crescent, this is your second chance to live. I present you with a gift many would give anything to get, and I demand you use it very wisely and get the justice you deserve," she said, planting a kiss on my forehead. Just like that, I got pulled back into darkness, and everything quieted around me.
Carissa’s POV“How did it go?” I rushed the question to my father the moment he walked in.He ran his eyes down my being in visible anger before letting out a sigh. “What is it, father? Why do you stare at me like that?”“Because you almost destroyed everything by making me take such a matter to Theodore.”“What do you mean? What happened?” I asked urgently.“What I mean is you should’ve believed me when I said Theodore isn’t interested in the throne. I mean, I saw him. I saw his eyes the day he confessed this to me. He just wants to get Violetta and be out of this place.”I squinted my brows in confusion because it just didn’t sit well with me that Theodore, the rightful heir to the throne would be willing to give it up just like that.Just because of Violetta.I wanted to tell my father about the silver necklace that had Theodore’s name on it, but at that point, it didn’t seem to matter anymore. He was already convinced that Theodore would leave the throne to him, and although I wa
Theodore’s POVSeveral thoughts swirled through my mind as I wondered what in the hell he could have wanted to discuss with me. Especially since he mentioned the throne.I stared at the door, pissed that the more important thing I should be focusing my attention on had drifted away, and this silly excuse of a Beta was the reason for that. However, I definitely couldn’t reject his request. It was still important for me to keep up with appearances so he wouldn’t suspect a thing.“Uhhh sure, what is it you want to talk about?”He took a deep breath and walked closer to me.“Please sit.” He said, pointing to the couch as he lowered himself on the one opposite it. I sighed. Where the hell is this going, Beta John?I thought to myself.“Well, it’s nothing much. It’s just something that I think is paramount we discuss.”“Okay. I’m all ears; go ahead.”“I know you said that you aren’t interested in the throne and just wanted to take Violetta and go far away from here.”I squinted my brows in
Theodore’s POV“We all know our parts in this, right?”I asked the pairs of eyes staring at me, and they all nodded. Our plan was simple. We had to inject an antidote into Luna Theresa when we saw her. An antidote that would diminish the strength of her charms.“But are we certain that she’s going to fall for this trap? I mean, it’s the mother, Luna. She’s known to be pretty smart.” Caleb asked.I sighed. “Well, smart people tend to get ahead of themselves and get cocky. I believe even Luna Theresa is no exception. And hopefully she makes the mistake because that is exactly what we need.”“If. But what if she doesn’t?”“She will. For her plans of an heir, she needs both Nolan and Violetta, so I know she’ll definitely make the mistake and come here.” "Beta John," replied. My fists tightened in my pockets as I stared at him. Here he was, acting all perfect and saintly as if Luna Theresa was the only evil among us.There was no point in getting angry, as everything was about to come to
Violetta’s POVI swiped my tongue across my lips, eyes focused on nothing but the absolute evil before me.The evil I had to rip to pieces. The evil that I couldn’t believe I had been dining with.I leapt into the air, ready to dig my fangs into her face, but just then—“Lunaras feras, cor museum surge,By fang and flame, let the wide awake.Oh ancient ones, bind flesh to fury,Take thy oath and claim thy child.”As the words left her mouth, my wolf faltered, falling hard onto the floor.Feeling the weakness surge through me, I immediately tried to turn back, but it seemed impossible. My wolf trembled, claws scraping against the ground as I tried to anchor myself through the agony I was feeling. My breaths came in short, ragged gasps, bones straining beneath my fur but never breaking through no matter how hard I tried.I whined, then tried it again, willing my wolf to yield, but there was no change. No matter how hard I tried, my claws wouldn’t fall back, and the beast wouldn’t yield
Luna Theresa’s POVI paced back and forth in the room, unsure of what to do about the situation at hand. That bastard dared to kidnap Nolan; he dared to thwart my plans.I hissed, pissed beyond words.“How did that idiot let himself get kidnapped? How is it even possible to get kidnapped out of your own palace with so many guards to protect you, that little bastard?”I screamed angrily.I was very frustrated to realize that I ended up with a less competent son. I doubted that Theodore would have allowed himself to be taken so easily. There seemed to be little difference between Nolan as a man and a palace maid with no experience. In fact, he was worse. Not only did he have no single strength within him, but he was useless in every other ramification. I mean, for heaven’s sake, he couldn't even protect himself from something so minor. Now, he’s put me in a difficult situation. Not only do I risk losing face in front of all the guests who came for the wedding, but I also have to figure
Violetta’s POVI couldn’t believe my eyes and the words that came out of Carrissa’s mouth. At first, I had thought it was just one of her many antics to get under my skin, but not until she brought forth a scroll.A wedding scroll that had my name as the bride-to-be to Nolan. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, in the moment of shock as I turned my head to the mirror, I caught myself all dressed up in the proper Silvermoon attire fitting for a Luna intended.Carissa wasn’t lying.I really was getting married to Nolan. The man whom I swore that I would never have a thing to do with. How in the hell was that even possible? And what was worse was that I didn’t even remember making any decision like that. “I know you’re confused right now, Violetta, but I want you to know that none of this is your fault. You didn’t make that decision on your own. You were forced by Luna, but not in the way you think.”“What?”She dipped her hand into the pocket of her cloak and pulled out something, droppi
