Nivia POV.I couldn't believe what was happening. It was like a surreal dream. The wraiths shrieked again, loud and sharp around me.They clung to the edges of my mind, trying to dig in, to hold fast. Their cold burned like ice.“This is not your choice,” they snarled. “You were made for us. For judgment. For hunger. Not for this softness.”Silver drops passed through my skin, cool and bright, settling somewhere deeper than bone.I pushed myself up, legs shaking, and turned to face the space where I felt them most strongly, my face lifted to the sky.The wraiths flickered around me, faint outlines against the light. Thin, stretched shapes like smoke, eyes hollow. The rain passed through them too.Where it touched, their edges shivered, broke apart, re-formed.“Leave,” I said.My voice did not sound like mine. It was still soft, but there was steel inside it, honed by something older. They hissed.“We are bound,” they said. “By blood. By promise. By wrongs that have not been righted.”
