Chapter 31

Kylie’s POV After surfing the internet for three days, I couldn’t even land a single job. I sent my resume to several companies, hoping to work from home, or even on-site, and waited patiently for any news. Putting down my laptop, I sighed, closing my eyes as I thought about my life so far. I graduated from an average university in the human city, majoring in Computer Science. I barely earned my credits, actually. As my father always says: the only reason he spared the money to send me to school was so I wouldn’t embarrass him when I became a Luna. To him, my degree was just for appearances. He always made it clear that as Luna, I wouldn’t need to do anything in the future other than manage the pack alongside Cole. And somehow, I lived in that delusion — to depend on Cole. I was either with him or out at the hunting grounds instead of being in class. And now, the slap I needed was delivered so brutally and without mercy. I was too foolish. It took me far too long to realize t

Chapter 32

Kylie's POV"Tomorrow."She raised her brow. "Then make sure to catch me the biggest meat, one that’ll cover your rent. Since we're family, you only need to bring $800 worth of meat."My hand clenched, and I chose to say nothing as I slammed the door in her face, not caring if it hit her nose or that forehead of hers. In fact, I would be glad if it did. I sat on my bed for a while before finally gathering the necessary equipment for tomorrow’s hunt.I stood up, brushing the irritation from my face, and walked to the corner of my small room. There, hidden beneath a loose floorboard, was my old hunting gear.I pulled the board aside carefully and reached down, feeling the familiar coolness of the leather straps. My fingers brushed against the polished wood of my bow, the one I hadn’t used in a while.I laid everything on the bed: my bow, a worn quiver filled with silver-tipped arrows, and my camouflage jacket that still smelled faintly of pine and sweat.I stared at them, picking out t

Kylie's POVMy breath hitched. For a moment, I stood frozen, unsure if I’d heard him right. My mind tried to catch up with the vulgar words spilling from his mouth. Was this really happening? To me?“Kelvin,” I said, my voice low, shaking slightly. “Back. The fuck. Off.”But he only chuckled, daring to step even closer as he reached out his hand again. “Oh, come on, Kylie. Everyone knows you’re just pretending now. What’s with all this ‘I don't want cock’ thing? You used to be Cole’s little whore, and now, you've climbed into his father's bed. And once you got tired of him, you looked for someone else, right? Rather than whoring around, let me give you a good fuck you’ll never forget. Allow me to, will you?"Laughter echoed behind him as his peers laughed, laughing at me.That was the final straw. Before I could stop myself, my hand snapped up and cracked across his face with a satisfying smack. The sound rang through the air like thunder. His head turned sharply from the force, and s

Kylie's POV I stared at the boy thoughtfully and couldn't help but blurt out, "I don't think I've ever seen this face before. Did you just join the pack?" The boy shook his head. "I came to visit my aunt, who is living here. I lived in the city, actually." I get it now. "That explains it." He arched a brow. "Mmm?" I smiled. "I was thinking I wouldn't have missed such a handsome face in our pack." Honestly, that was just an honest compliment from my side. This young man wouldn't lose out even when paired with the likes of Cole. The tips of his ears flushed. Gosh, he's thin-skinned. "Thank you, I guess." Despite that, he still boldly flashed me a smile. I returned the smile as I held his gaze, taking a step back. "I will get going now. See you." He nodded. "See you too." And with that, I turned around, walking away, though I could still feel his gaze on me. After taking a few steps, I finally arrived at the pack doctor's house. Before I could e

Chapter 35

Kylie's POV The next day came quickly, and I sat on the bed as the alarm blared beside me. I still felt groggy, but I knew I had to get ready, the other hunters would be awake by now, and I preferred going along with them than alone. I slipped out of my nightgown and got into my hunting gear. I pulled on my boots, tied my hair into a tight braid, and strapped my quiver across my back. Once I was fully armed, I swung the door open. My steps paused for just a moment when I saw Lucy sitting on the couch, one leg crossed over the other, her fingers delicately wrapped around a steaming cup of tea. Mist from the mug hovered like fog around her face, casting her features in a soft haze. Her lips curled as I passed. “I want a big, beautiful piece of meat. Don’t forget that.” Her voice was calm but laced with amusement, her eyebrows raised. My heart tightened with fury but I didn’t respond, just swung the door as I slipped out. Outside, the cold air bit into my skin and ch

Chapter 36

Kylie’s POV Its fur was matted and patchy, its body hunched and malformed, stuck halfway between wolf and man, a sickly creature that had long lost control. It spotted me, and its eyes, as big as goose eggs, darkened. A growl tore from its throat, one that made my legs tremble. Then it leapt. I rolled aside as it lunged, crashing heavily against the forest floor. I was already up, blade drawn. The adrenaline made me stronger than ever, fueling me in a way sparring with Lucy never had. The rogue snarled and came at me again, swinging its claws in wild, jerky motions. I ducked under the strike and slashed across its torso, where I had already noticed it was bleeding. It staggered. Seizing the moment of its brief immobility, I delivered another clean strike right across the neck. It collapsed in a twitching heap. Blood pooled at my feet, steaming slightly in the cold air. I exhaled, steadying my breath as I dropped to my knees, my fingers trembling slightly. “Damn.”

Chapter 37

Kylie's POV A snarl tore from my throat upon hearing that, and my hand tightened against the blade like my life depended on it. "Mmmm, quite feisty," another one said, drawing closer. The one that spoke earlier smiled—not that I could see it beneath that mask, but I could hear it in his voice. "Don't worry, beauty! You will like us." And before I could even react, he moved so fast my vision blur, and the next thing I felt was a sharp blow on my shoulder. --- Third POV Kylie's body swayed and she went limp. The vampires excelled at speed, moving like a flash and before you knew it, they were behind you like a shadow. The three brothers smiled at one another before the one who struck Kylie's acupoint—Marcus—tossed the beauty on his back. He exchanged a look with his brothers. "Shall we go now or hunt for a few more?" There were a few seconds of silence before Joffrey, one of his brothers responded. "We've caught enough. Let's go now before the sun rises and they catch our

Chapter 38

The carriage was opened, and finally, we could finally see the sky after hours of being locked in. It was so dark my vision couldn't penetrate much, and so cold goosebumps rose on my skin. My knees softened as I was scooped out, unable to stand still for a while. But the vampires were rough. They directly threw us to the ground, not a care about how we felt. I gritted my teeth, and finally, after a few seconds, I could stand on my feet. I looked around but couldn't really see. There were huge trees behind us, so tall as if they wanted to have a word with the moon in the sky. The sound of crickets was so loud my ear hurt, and by our right was a vast open space. I've never been here before. I had no idea where these monsters had brought us. "Bring them in!" one of the vampires barked, and we were led into a lone mansion, towering over us. A single candle flickered in the hallway. There were people inside. Men. A lot of them. I took a deep breath as the other women and I w

Chapter 39

Several hours back. Third Person POV Today was a very strange day. Everyone could feel it, the shift in the air, the way their eyes warily glanced at a particular spot, then hurriedly looked away… only to silently glanced at their friends. It was as if everyone was silently communicating with each other, but didn't dare to linger for long. Actually, it wasn’t their fault. Who wouldn’t be shocked? The women were already trembling with excitement, wishing they had their phones to snap a picture of this devilish looking man. The men shook with reverence, their blood boiling as they recalled their childhood dreams. And yet, here stood that man, the very one they once aspired to be, standing leisurely, his hair still damp, his blue eyes shining with a relaxed glint. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and exactly how the women liked him and what the men dreamed to be. He seemed gentle, but his immense strength was what the men longed to possess. Barkov smiled stiffly at the m

Chapter 40

Third Person POV Barkov maintained a stern voice. “Mrs. Lucy! For your disobedience and incompetence, another 20 squats have been added!” Lucy’s body trembled, her eyes widening. How could he add more?! Did she look like she could survive the first two hundred squats? And now, he freaking added twenty more? Injustice overrode any sense of wit. She bit her lips, her eyelashes fluttering softly. Some men faintly felt their heart ache at such a scene. “B–But… isn’t that too harsh?” Elijah suddenly thought of something and waved his hand casually. “Make it weighted.” Lucy’s face paled. At this point, the more she spoke, the greater the punishment became. Her eyes filled with confusion. What was really going on? Had she really offended him somehow? Clearly, they’d never had any interaction before. If anything, she was Cole’s girlfriend. So why was he treating her so harshly? Suddenly, her eyes widened, her knees buckling as her chest constricted. Kylie… wasn’t she given the s
