Putting down my wine glass, my eyes wander around the glittering ballroom, trying to locate my mate. I had been sitting here for a while now, but he was nowhere to be found, even though he had invited me here himself. Just as I was debating whether to go look for him for the third time, Mia, my best friend, muttered beside me. "Look at him." Face twisted with disgust, she scoffed. "Making out with that hussy in public when he had a mate at home. Poor woman, she just bore him twins two weeks ago, and yet, here he was…” I followed her gaze, and my stomach churned. A tall male wolf had a younger she-wolf on his lap, one hand on her waist, the other inside her shirt while his head was pressed against her nape, clearly taking in her scent. I recognized the man, Jace. He was married, and I had met his mate. She was a lovely beauty: sweet, soft-spoken and kind. She had also once given me food when my stepmother hid the foodstuff. "What a bastard.” I couldn't help but sigh. It was indeed always the good ones who got cheated on. "They're all like this lately," Mia said, not bothering to keep her voice down. She glared at him with fire in her eyes. "Half the males in this pack treat their mates like temporary toys, claiming they're polygamous by nature. Just thinking about it is giving me a headache." And she was right. As absurd as that might sound, the males had indeed grown more condescending lately. Mia's older sister hadn't been spared either. Her mate had eloped with a young omega just after she got pregnant. I'm sure Jace could hear us. He glanced our way, both arms now under the she-wolf's shirt, the outline of his hands clearly visible on her chest. "Monogamy is for women, not us. We male wolves can't be satisfied with one woman," he murmured, kissing the woman's neck. "How can anyone be content eating the same meal every day?" ‘Scumbag,' my wolf, Rain, muttered. I couldn't agree more. I refuted his words. "That's a lie.” He looked over at me, and I saw the amusement in his eyes as he smirked. "Oh yeah? You think your fairy-tale love story's going to last? Wait until your mate gets bored. Then you'll see I was right." I opened my mouth to argue, but Mia beat me to it, her voice confident. "Not everyone can't keep their dick in their pants like you. Ky's mate is going to propose to her tonight. They'll have their happily ever after." "Really?" Jace's smirk widened, his eyes crinkling. "Yes!" Mia replied firmly. He chuckled, and just when I was wondering what he found so funny, he pointed toward a random corner of the room. “Isn't that your mate?" I instinctively followed his gaze. My brows furrowed, there was no one there. I scowled. “Was your eyesight working wrong now?” "Oh... they walk quite fast. It's not easy to hold it in," he flashed me a knowing smile. "Your boyfriend just passed through there with a beautiful companion. Isn't that surprising?" “What the fuck are you talking about?" Mia snapped, her voice rising. Even I myself was about to smash a glass at him. "Well, believe me or not. I'm sure you'll find out soon." Whatever he was saying, I was sure it was garbage. Still, I had been looking for Cole for nearly thirty minutes. He had specifically told me he was here, but like a needle in a haystack, he was nowhere to be found. I'd tried contacting him, but he wasn't answering his phone. It wouldn't hurt to go look for him in that direction, even though he wasn't the type to admire flowers. What if he had gotten lost after one caught his eyes? Telling Mia to wait, I went toward the direction Jace had pointed. It was the garden. And as I had expected, he wasn't there. So I turned around, ready to leave. But then, I heard some strange noises. My steps froze as the sounds grew clearer. "Ahhh... it's too big... mmm... slow down a bit... I-I can't take it anymore..." I shook my head, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. What the fuck? Can't they just go home if they want to have sex? "Hunnnn, your cock is too big, Cole... slow down, please..." I froze. My eyes widened and my head whipped in the direction of that voice. Cole? That was my mate's name... And he was the only one I knew who bore that name. Or did I mishear? My heart pounded like it wanted to escape my ribcage. My stomach churned with panic. I moved toward the voice, needing to be sure. Even if I had misheard, I had to see for myself. I lifted the hem of my silver gown, the best dress I owned, worn specifically for tonight and ran forward. And lo and behold, two figures were intertwined against the garden wall. I could only see the man's back, his pale white butt in the air as he rammed into the woman in front of him. My legs gave out beneath me. I felt my wolf cry out in despair. "Co—Cole?" I called out shakily, my face ashen, my whole body trembling with disbelief. My word stopped the adulterers, and the man turned around. The world blurred, and I saw stars. Deep inside another woman, was none other than my boyfriend and mate of five years, Cole. "Wh-what are you doing?" What was I even asking? It was obvious. He was fucking another woman after telling me to get ready for a proposal tonight. I gritted my teeth, tears welling up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Jace... that scumbag had been right. "Ahhh." I clutched my chest, feeling suffocated. My wolf kept crying, calling out for hers. Just like me, she was hurt. This betrayal came out of nowhere. “Kylie...?" The woman he was with turned around, and I stumbled back in shock at the sight of the familiar face. My voice trembled with rage. "Yo–You're cheating on me with my step mother?! How could you do this to me?! Have you forgotten that I'm your mate?! Was that why you asked me to come here?! To humiliate me?!" "Stop shouting," Cole said, frowning. "Ahhhh!" I screamed, my voice rising uncontrollably. "You son of a bitch! I've been with you for five years! Five fucking whole years! And this is how you repay me? By screwing my step-mom?! Bastard and a fucking two-faced whore, you two are a perfect match!" "Ky–Kylie..." My nostrils flared with fury as I glared at the woman who made my father despise my mother, which led to their divorce, and somehow actually now come in between me and my mate. Lucy Jones — I hate this woman. I fucking hate her with every fiber of my being. She despised me too, but it was the least of my expectation that she would sleep with my mate. "I'm not a whore... I was just helping your mate," she muttered, biting her lip, her eyes watering as if I had wronged her. I've had enough of this two-faced bitch! I've really had enough. Despite her being my stepmother, she was actually just two years older than me. She ruined my parents' decades of marriage by enjoying her first heat with my father, and now, seven years later, with only two months after my father's death, she was entangled with my fiancé! But to my shock, Cole fell for it. He actually fell for it. He pulled her into his arms and glared at me. "Don't you dare call her that again." "To hell with you!" My eyes landed on a nearby glass of red wine. Without thinking, I picked it up and smashed it at the shameless pair. "Ky—What's—" Mia rushed up, her eyes wide as they took in the scene. Jace also appeared behind her, the she-wolf still clinging to him, both of them smirking. They were mocking me. Damn it! So much for claiming a faithful male wolf existed. I clenched my fists and looked back at Cole, who now had the audacity to look angry. "How could you threw that glass at us? You hurt Lucy!" He was blaming me? His shamelessness was astounding. A small crowd had gathered now, drawn in by the commotion. Lucy whimpered, tearing up. "My foot... it hurts..." I looked down at the shard of glass, sure enough, one had pierced her foot, but no blood yet. I scoffed. “Your skin is indeed thick! No wonder you're so shameless.” My words infuriated Cole. He scooped Lucy into his arms, glaring at me. The love I once saw in his eyes whenever he looked at me was gone. All that remained was cold, bitter hatred. My heart shattered again, but I refused to show it. I bit my lip hard, unwilling to back down. But what came next made me freeze, my heart turning numb. "I, Cole King, sever the mate-bond with you, Kylie Edwards."Third Person POV The cars finally crunched to a halt on a gravel turnout overlooking a scene of almost impossibly perfect beauty. A wide, grassy meadow sloped gently down to the edge of a crystal-clear lake, its surface so still it perfectly mirrored the deep blue of the sky and the deep green of the surrounding pine forest. Wildflowers — dotted bursts of purple, yellow, and white — sprinkled the grass like confetti. The air was fresh and clean, carrying the gentle scent of damp earth and pine needles. It was the kind of place meant for whispered secrets and tender moments. Cole stepped out, his dark mood contrasting sharply with the idyllic surroundings. He barely glanced at the view, his attention fixed on the two women emerging from the backseat. His guards moved with quiet efficiency, unpacking the lavish picnic basket and laying out a thick, checkered blanket, plush cushions, and an assortment of containers that promised a small feast. Kylie didn't wait for an invitation or di
Mia’s POV I laid her down, my breath heavy, my chest burning, my eyes teary. Then I got up and sprint as fast as my shaky legs would carry me to fetch the healer. Miraculously — did I even mention?—I could feel my legs again. They were no longer stiff and heavy. No longer dead weight like before I was dragged in. I get it now. She must’ve called the healer as a cover to “treat me,” while secretly burning herself out to fix me. Kylie… Just how good could she be to me? And yet… And yet… all I ever did was betray her, just to have extra sips of water. A wave of guilt crashed into me, twisting my stomach and tightening my chest. I bit my lips, channeling that guilt into speed as I rushed to get the healer as fast as I could. Upon arriving, he sat by Kylie, stroking his silver beard, confusion filling his gaze. “Did you two fight to the death while I wasn’t around? How come she’s drained so badly?” he muttered, already reaching for supplies to give her a drip. I bit my lip so hard
Third Person POV (Sarah Focused) The room was quiet. Too quiet. The walls bore no mirrors, no decorations, no whispers of the outside world, and the sunlight that filtered through the thin curtains felt weak, almost insulting. It was as though the universe itself had conspired to give her isolation its coldest version. Sarah sat on the edge of the bed, legs crossed, hands clenched so tightly the skin on her knuckles had turned white. The food lay untouched on the side table: bowls of her usual favourite meals, meats, bread, and other delicacies that many nannies woikd never get a taste of. But for her, it was different. Cole is like an extension of her, despite them nothing sharing any blood ties. So she able to enjoy everything his birth mother was supposed to be enjoying. And that made her feel guilty. Oh, how will her beloved Lady, Kylie's birth mother felt when she realized she hadn't helped her take care of her son like she was supposed to? This feeling made her lost
Third Person POVThe air in the car became so thick with hostility it felt like breathing in soup. Merilyn's expression, which had been coldly commanding, now twisted into something more forceful and ugly. The elegant mask of nobility slipped, revealing the raw, entitled power beneath. Her eyes narrowed into venomous slits, her lips pulling back from her teeth in a snarl."I said..." she repeated, her voice dropping to a low, guttural register that vibrated with threat, "...I am your Luna. You have me already. Are you so pathetic that you need to cheat by hoarding the phone numbers of other, lesser whores? Is that what this is about?"In the backseat, Kylie couldn't help but frown. The crude, vicious word was more than harsh; she couldn't help but wondered if she had misjudged her or something. She had actually thought she was a well-bred noble woman, in the end... Indeed, don't judge the book by its cover. Cole, however, seemed more utterly, dumbfoundedly shocked. His head whipped a
Third Person POVThe car sped on, the last remnants of sunset giving way to a deep, inky darkness that swallowed the world outside. The headlights cut two lonely tunnels of light through the night, and inside the vehicle, the mood was just as dark and confined. They were surrounded by nothing but the hum of the engine and their own tangled thoughts, a small island of tension moving through an abyss.Halfway through the journey, in the dim, shadowy light of the car's interior, Merilyn happened to turn her head. She caught Kylie's side profile silhouetted against the passing darkness. The weak, exhausted pallor of Kylie's face was softened by the gloom, and the delicate lines of her nose and jaw were thrown into sharp, elegant relief. A new, opportunistic thought, cold and calculating, suddenly struck Merilyn with the force of a lightning bolt.'She is quite pretty,' Merilyn observed, not with jealousy, but with the detached appraisal of a collector assessing a new piece. 'And my brothe
Third Person POVThe ride back home was nothing short of a rolling cage of tension and drama. The kind the healer would have died for. The air inside the luxury vehicle was so thick and heavy it was difficult to breathe, each person trapped in their own private world of thought, the cheerful picnic scenery outside the windows a stark, mocking contrast to the silence within.A weak and utterly drained Kylie, her face still pale and her body feeling as fragile as glass, had been half-carried into the car by the guards. She slumped into her seat, wanting nothing more than to close her eyes and forget the world existed. When Merilyn approached the car, radiating a satisfied, almost glowing energy, Kylie's eyes lit up a bit and she nodded in greeting. "Lady Merilyn." Merilyn paused at the door, her eyes sweeping over Kylie’s pitiful state with a flicker of amusement before her face settled into a magnanimous smile. "Oh, Kylie, no need to be so formal with me anymore," she said, her voice
