(Noah’s POV) When I woke up, the first thing I noticed was the ache. Not just in my lower body… everywhere. A dull throb beneath my skin, in my throat, my eyes. The dim light didn’t help; it painted everything in half-shadows, unfamiliar and too still. I turned, slowly. “Lucien?” My voice came out rough, cracked. The sound of it startled me; hoarse, almost unrecognizable. No answer. The sheets were cool where he should have been. I shifted and winced. A faint, sticky warmth trailed down my thigh, a reminder, too vivid, of what he’d done to me. What I’d let him do. Something buzzed, sharp and insistent, cutting through the silence. I frowned, got up, and limped toward it, tracing the sound to a drawer near the far wall. My fingers curled around the handle— “Don’t open that drawer.” His voice sounded deep, calm, and commanding. I flinched. My heart jumped against my ribs as he stepped out of the darkness. “That scared me,” I muttered. “What’s with you and this darkness, anyway?”
