C570: Everything back to where they belong (2)

Drake’s brows came together, and he wanted to say how things were not so simple and that his concerns were genuine, but Talia was quick to put her fingers over his mouth."I know what you are going to say, Drake, but don’t. Not now. Now it’s just the two of us and I won’t allow anyone to spoil this moment."Drake didn’t want to spoil any second they shared, but the dangers were real, and he couldn’t stop worrying that one day she will disappear, and he won’t be able to prevent it from happening. But she was right there, pleading for a few moments of normalcy where she won’t worry about enemies that were invisible and all around them, and how could he say no to that?Drake’s shoulders relaxed and his lips moved to kiss fingers that were pressing there.’I love you, kitten.’, his voice sounded in her head, and he enjoyed the way her eyes lit up in response."Make love to me, Drake. Make me forget about everything beyond the two of us. Remind me that I belong in your embrace and no one w

C571: Morning cuddles (J&C)

’KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK...’James refused to wake up. He was holding onto a soft and warm body that smelled of wild berries, and he had the most delicious dream which dissipated with every next knock that sounded like it was striking the back of his head.’KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK!’Eventually, James jolted out of his sleep and scrambled to get to the door."What!?", he snapped when he saw Maya’s smiling face and eyes that observed his disheveled appearance with interest."Lunch is in fifteen minutes.", Maya said. "You should join us because Drake and Talia will want to discuss what happened in the meeting and come up with strategies."James nodded curtly at Maya and waited for her to start walking down the hallway before closing the door. His lips lifted into a smile at the sight of Cornelia sleeping on his bed.Last night they returned from the Lightclaw pack, and they spent the rest of the night talking. Well, James did most of the talking. He told her about his childhood at the Red Moon pack,

C572: Pledging loyalty

Talia and Drake entered the conference room on the first floor to see that everyone else was already there, seated around the massive oval table, waiting for them.Maya, Caden, Dawn, George, Mindy, Gideon, Cornelia, James, Zina, Keith, Pierce, Caleb, Liam, Sandy, and Lulu. This room was used when Alphas and other high-ranking members came to discuss important matters with Drake, and the study was too small or not adequate.Drake was not happy that Talia’s guards were present, but Talia told him that if they are going to guard her, they should know what’s the general situation. As for the others, Talia considered them as her friends and crucial people in her life.Drake started the meeting with, "You all know by now that Talia is my fated mate and we will be leading the pack run tonight. But there is more Talia wants to share. I hope you all understand that what she is about to say should stay between us."When everyone nodded in agreement, Talia took it from there to say how Alpha Edw

C573: New alliance (1)

Now that everyone in the room knew about witches, Talia wanted to bring up another point. "From what Marcy told us, there might be some artifacts that can suppress witches’ powers. I don’t want to risk witches coming out to our realm only to be trapped and stripped of their powers. We need to be careful about this. Cornelia, are you aware of such artifacts?"Cornelia’s expression was not good. "Yes. There are spells that can boost our connection with nature, and there are spells that can block it. Spells can be imbued into artifacts, but that requires skilled artifact refiners and precious materials. We have only a few of those in our Coven and they are treated like treasures."Cornelia was restless, and Talia did her best to pacify her. "Don’t worry. No one other than us here knows what you are. As soon as the pack run is done and we confirm that everything is stable, we can leave for the Midnight Guardians pack and see if they have more information. Axel will help.""Are you sure th

C574: New alliance (2)

James was not surprised to hear that George had an Alpha bloodline. People spoke about George’s rise through the ranks as a result of hard work and talent, but James knew there was more to it. However, without George using his Aura, James was only guessing that there was something special about the youngest Commander in the history of the Red Moon pack."I assume that my father doesn’t know about this.", James said.George scoffed. "Of course, not. If Alpha Edward knew about my background, he would eliminate me before I hit my teens. I was brought to the Red Moon pack as an orphan from the Frostcrest pack."James nodded knowingly. "My grandfather killed your father. I assume your intentions are not peaceful."George shook his head. "Only when I avenge my parents and free my people, will I be able to relax.""Do you plan to kill my family?", James asked in monotone, like that didn’t apply to him."That was my plan.", George admitted. "But then I became your trainer and I realized that

C575: Visiting prisoners (1)

It was mid-afternoon, and Talia wanted to do one more thing before the pack run.Drake didn’t understand why she wanted to visit the dungeon, but he went with her because there was no way he will let her out of his sight. It was a warm afternoon. Talia opened the window of Drake’s black armored Lexus SUV, and she stuck her head outside, enjoying the wind that was amplified by the movement of the car.Drake watched Talia’s bright smile as her hair fluttered wildly behind her, and he hoped that she will be able to smile like that forever. She was laughing and squealing while trying to catch butterflies as they drove next to them, and Drake loved that such simple things could make her happy.Eventually, the car took a turn on a side road that was not used often, and the ride became bumpy, so Talia got back inside to sit properly."Is Lisa gone from the dungeon?", Talia asked Drake."Yes. Stephanie picked her up before lunchtime.", Drake confirmed before asking, "Are you sure it was wise

C576: Visiting prisoners (2)

Ashley, Heather, and Jill recognized Talia as the woman who was the reason why they ended up in the dungeon, and the way Drake glared at them while standing behind Talia with his hands in his pockets told them that Talia’s status didn’t change.Three women didn’t know that Talia was their second Alpha, but it was obvious Talia was important so none of them dared to look directly at Talia, fearing it will be seen as a provocation.Talia approved of their docile behavior, without a trace of previous arrogance, which told Talia that they learned their lesson. Talia noticed that Ashley’s, Heather’s, and Jill’s clothes were messy, but otherwise, they were in a good condition. Well, even if they were tortured, as werewolves, they would heal quickly unless wolfsbane was used."Were you treated well?", Talia asked three women who nodded in response without lifting their gazes."Did Alpha Drake change his mind?", a voice drifted in from the hallway. "Or did Alpha Edward call?" It was Nora.Nor

C577: A fresh start

Distracted by the unpleasant thoughts of Nora, instead of going to the car, Talia walked into the forest. Drake was one step behind her.As they moved further into the foliage, Talia’s thoughts expanded to more than just Nora. Memories of people looking down on Talia and calling her names changed one after another. Marcy, Anna and her gang of Omegas, Cassie, Lisa, Alpha Magnus, Elders, Alpha Edward... they looked at Talia like she was dirty, like she didn’t belong there. In the attic, in the kitchen, in the dining room, in the study, at the party, at the meeting of Alphas. Who were they to decide if she should be somewhere or not?Talia wondered how difficult it will be for people to accept witches as part of their normal when they couldn’t accept one little Talia. After an unknown measure of time, Talia’s legs stopped moving. She closed her eyes and listened to the sounds that came from all directions. Leaves rustled under the breeze, birds chirped, something shuffled in the bushes..

C578: Preparations for the ceremony

After dinner, females from the packhouse went into one spare bedroom, while males went into another. It was part of the tradition to prepare separately for the ceremony. They would put traditional leather clothes on and accessorize with necklaces made of teeth and colorful pebbles in an attempt to show themselves in their best edition for their mates and the rest of the pack. When it was time for the ceremony to begin, females, elderly, and children would gather close to the altar where Shaman was, and males in their prime would form a circle around them, symbolizing that they will protect the pack. After the Shaman completes the ceremony for the Moon Goddess to bless them, elderly and children would disperse and head home, while females and males would shift into their wolf forms and dash into the forest. Females would go first, for males to chase after them. The ones that were mated would look for their mates, while others would treat this as a big mixer. No matter how random it loo

C579 The pack run (1)

Talia and Zina walked out of the room to be greeted by Keith, Liam, Pierce, Caleb, Sandy, and Lulu who bowed respectfully. All six of them wore ceremonial clothes and had patterns drawn on their skin with black paint, similar to what Talia saw on Drake. They also had impressive necklaces made out of teeth.Talia noticed that Keith had the most drawings on his body among her guards.”What do those patterns represent?”, Talia asked Keith, genuinely curious.Keith puffed his chest proudly. “These are for challenges I won against worthy opponents.” And also, fights against rogues and for lives taken, but he didn’t want to sully Talia’s ears with harsh words.Keith enjoyed the way Talia looked at the drawings that adorned his body, and he appreciated the fact that Talia didn’t see him as a pampered trainer, but as a capable warrior he was.He knew that Talia was mated to Drake and that harboring those feelings inside his heart was futile, but there was nothing he could do about it other th
