Carissa's POV"Uhh..." I groaned while holding my head, which felt heavy. "My head hurts so much..."As I grumbled with my eyes closed, I tried to remember what had happened the night before.Last night, I was invited to a reunion by some friends at a five-star hotel. At first, I thought the gathering was just a dinner at a restaurant to catch up, especially since I had just returned from studying abroad after graduating.Unfortunately, I was too foolish to think it through, and I completely forgot that this group of friends preferred to spend our time drinking at the bar.As a result, here I am now, cursing my foolishness for joining that event, getting caught up in a silly game of "Truth or Dare," and ending up drunk after being forced to drink when I lost.As if that wasn't ridiculous enough, I suddenly remembered the worst punishment I received last night, which was... kissing a stranger.‘Ah! A stranger!’That thought hit me out of nowhere. When I faced that punishment, I was too

Carissa's POV However, a week later, when my parents and brother returned, I was shocked by one piece of news. They casually dropped the bombshell that Dylan was going to be staying with us for a while due to some unexpected circumstances. My heart sank, and panic surged through me. “Are you throwing a birthday party and inviting your high school friends?!”My scream made Raihan, my oldest brother, look at me strangely. “What’s wrong? Is there a problem?” he asked, his muscular frame and sharp brown eyes focused on me.“Aren’t you ashamed of your age?!” I blurted out, frustration bubbling over.“What does celebrating a birthday have to do with shame?” Raihan replied casually, unfazed by my outburst. “Besides, I told you about the party last month, right? Even before you came back here.”I felt a mix of disbelief and irritation. How could he be so nonchalant about it? All I could think about was the imminent awkwardness of sharing a house with Dylan while my brother celebrated his b

Carissa's POV My small call made the man, who was standing tall while looking at his friends, lower his gaze and stare straight into my dark eyes. “Long time no see, Carissa,” Dylan said in a deep voice.Hearing Dylan's reply, my mind suddenly became chaotic. Didn’t Raihan say this friend wasn’t invited?! Then why was Dylan here now? Did Raihan lie to me!?As a series of questions spun in my mind, I heard someone shout, “Dylan!” I turned and saw Raihan rushing down from the stage to greet his close friend. A warm hug was given by my brother to Dylan. “Why didn’t you let me know you were coming?! I thought you were still abroad, Dylan!” Hearing Raihan's words and his surprised reaction, I thought, ‘So, my brother really doesn’t know about Dylan's return?’ I glanced back at my brother’s close friend. ‘Then how did he end up here now?!’ “The opportunity to reunite with you all shouldn’t be missed,” Dylan replied after Raihan’s brief embrace before releasing him. “Besides

Standing still, Raihan was also confused by my overly sensitive attitude compared to usual. However, to calm his guests, he smiled. “No, no. You all relax. She won't be angry.” My brother then dragged his friends toward the stage. “Come on, let’s enjoy the party! Let’s sing until morning!” Just a few steps later, Raihan realized something was missing. He turned around and found Dylan standing silently, watching me leave.“Dylan! Come on. What are you doing?” Called out, Dylan finally turned to Raihan. His expression was calm, and his face unreadable. For a moment, Raihan thought he saw a hint of dissatisfaction on Dylan's face, but then his focus shifted as his friend casually replied, “Okay.” “Haah….” A long sigh escaped my lips as I flopped down on the bed. Exhausted from the brief encounter with my brother's high school friends, I decided to rest for a moment in my room. “Don’t you want to be my fiancée anymore? Or… am I no longer on your list of potential husbands?”

Carissa's POV However, to my surprise, my mother explained calmly, “Grandma Yulia passed away just last week, Carissa.” My expression shifted from deep worry to confusion and slight shock. Grandma Yulia was Dylan’s grandmother, a woman who often cared for me and Raihan when our parents were away on business. She was gentle and kind, and I was saddened by the news. “I … I’m sorry for your loss,” I said sincerely, then added, “but I still don’t understand how this relates to my question?”My mother approached me and placed her hands on my shoulders. “As you know, Grandma Yulia loved you dearly. Therefore, she wanted what was best for your future.” Hearing that, I felt uneasy. “That’s why, before she passed, Grandma Yulia left a will,” my mother continued with a gentle smile. “She asked that Dylan marry you no later than two months from now.” My eyes widened in shock. But before I could say anything, my father added, “Considering you once wished to marry Dylan, I believe thi

Dylan’s POVI looked at Carissa's still face after my demand, a storm of feelings twisted inside me. Her eyes shook—showing fear, rage, and doubt. But I can't give up now. Things had become too messy already and I was too selfish to let her leave."I’m not joking Carissa," I said, my voice soft but strong. "If you want me to keep quiet then you must stop messing with your own emotions.”She gulped, her face white. “You’re really mean…”Maybe I was cruel. But who can stay kind when your heart is always upset by the dark of that girl? Since that night—the one that should not have happened—Carissa was no more just my best friend's small sister. She turned into something much harder. Nearer. More hurtful! And now, when a wedding that was meant to be a simple thing for getting money was totally turned down by her I felt mad. Not only because of the money—but because she made me feel less than.“I’m not asking for you to love me Carissa,” I said softly. “I just want you to be a wife. That’s

Dylan’s POV I stood up from my seat. “Do you want me to come with you?”She turned sharply. “Don’t act like you care. I’m not your wife.”The words were sharp, but for some reason, they cut deeper than they should have. Maybe because… secretly, I wanted to hear her call me her husband someday. Not because of the inheritance. Not because of Grandma’s will. But because she wanted me.And that’s what made everything so complicated. I was starting to want things I shouldn’t be hoping for. After Carissa left, I sat in her father’s private study and stared at the glowing laptop screen. I opened the file of my grandmother’s will—the very thing that started all this chaos.“As a form of respect for the blood that binds our two families, and in hope that true love may grow from such union, I hereby leave the entire Drake family shares to my grandson, Dylan Drake, on the condition that he marries Carissa Andrean within two months of this letter being read…”I closed the laptop slowly. Grandma’

Carissa's POVI didn't know how I was still keeping myself together these days. Every step I took in this home felt like walking on pieces of glass, old wounds reopening while new ones formed before the old ones even had a chance to heal. After all the stuff Dylan had done—the threats, the push, the cold looks—and then quickly changing, telling me he’d wait without pushing anything… I felt tired. Mixed up. Shattered. How could I possibly trust his words?I wasn’t any silly girl who would fade at a plain, “I love you.” Not after he made me feel bad. Not after he trapped me and tried to keep me with a gift. But still, as I rested in bed that night, eyes wide and looking at the dark roof above me his words kept running in my mind.“I’ll wait… no pressure. No threats. And no will.”A little bit of me was wishing he really meant it.That morning, I chose to step out of the home. Maybe a little fresh air would help clean my mind. I put on a light coat and took the old notebook that I used f

Carissa's POV My heart got tight. There was something in the way he talked, not hurried, not pushy, just sincere.I stared at him for a bit before asking, “Do you want to come up? Just to dry off the clothes.” He seemed shocked but shook his head slowly. “If you don’t care.”We sat on the sofa quietly. He had a used coat of mine still a bit wet but heated by the tea he made for himself in my small kitchen.“I know I hurt you,” he said at last.I didn’t answer."But I've been getting better. Little by little. That love isn't about keeping someone close... it’s about letting them pick you again."I turned to him. “Do you regret it?”"Not liking you," he said. "But I wish I didn’t hide my feelings for a long time."I gulped down hard. The time felt too real, too still and low.“I can’t say I’ll love you like I did before,” I said softly. “But I want to try once more if you’re okay.”He looked at me with eyes not cold, not wanting—just full of thanks."I'll wait," he said softly "Even i

Carissa's POV It was almost a week since Dylan started to keep his word: to be here with no stress, to care for me without pushing. And for reasons I can’t fully say, I began to feel... calm. Not totally well, but at least I could breathe without the dark marks of past hurts holding me.But that day, a message startled me.From Raihan.[I’m in town. Can we meet for a bit?]I looked at the screen for a bit then I said something.[Where?][Magnolia Park. Five o'clock.]That park, the spot we sat at together, talking about family. Raihan was my sibling, but it often seemed like more than that—he was a close friend. He knew much about my life; especially about Dylan even before things become tricky.I knew, if he wanted to see me now, it must be something big. Just before five, I walked to the park with careful steps. The afternoon wind brought a smell of grass and wet dirt. On the usual bench, I saw him already sitting - tall body, black coat, same known face: calm calculating.“Cariss
