The room spun around me in slow, broken circles. I lay on the bed, my back soaked with sweat, my fingers numb from gripping the sheets too hard. The healer’s hands pressed against my stomach, firm and urgent, but her voice kept drifting in and out like I was underwater. “Chloe, you need to push,” she said again. “The baby is not coming out."
