Her home was small and crammed, the air filled with the smell of fresh bread baking. “You have a very cozy home,” I commented, looking around at how every space had been utilized to the max and the crazy cat tree that sat in the corner, almost reaching the ceiling. “Oh, this isn’t my home,” she said, waving to a lady who walked past a door to the kitchen. “I’m sharing with a friend for the meantime. I didn’t say a word as I sat up and picked up the bag in front of me. Andrew had still not moved or woken up. The sound of the machines beeping, his purple lips and mouth. My appetite vanished in an instant. How could I eat when my friend was literally on his deathbed?
