RONALDI watched helplessly as she disappeared through the service exit, and the moment the door slammed shut, something inside me snapped. At first I was frozen, my chest heaving, my hands curled into fists so tight I could feel the sting of my nails biting into my palms. The cowards with guns still hovered by the exits while their masked faces scanned the area for resistance. I gave them nothing… not yet. If I moved now, she died. But when I got her back, and I would, there wouldn’t be enough left of these men to bury.I forced my breathing to slow down, forced my pulse to even out, pushing the chaos so far down that all I felt now was cold rage. Catherine’s face was burned into my mind, the way she looked at me just before they dragged her away. Wide eyes, lips trembling, like she wanted to speak but couldn’t.She was terrified.I turned on my heel and strode out of the hall, ignoring the murmurs, the sobs, the stench of fear clinging to the air. Once I hit the corridor, I pulled

CATHERINE The warehouse smelled of rust and old seawater, like the kind of place where bad things went to die. The air was thick, stale, carrying the mixture of oil and mold. They’d shoved me into a cramped office on the second floor, overlooking the main floor where the armed me were. The chair beneath me was metal, the cold biting into my skin. My wrists ached where the rope dug into them, bound tightly behind the chair. My ankles were tied too, but not as well. If I twisted hard enough, I could loosen them.T said it was just theatrics, to sell this whole thing but I had a really bad feeling about this. The door was cracked open just enough that I could hear muffled voices from the floor below. Orders barked. The scrape of crates. Laughter. Every sound grated on my nerves. And no sign of T.He was supposed to be here. He promised this was the plan, that Ronald would bring the ledgers, that I just had to play my part. But now? Now it felt like I’d been left dangling as bait. What i

CATHERINEWhen I opened my eyes, everywhere was blurry, white walls bleeding into the haze, humming machines and faces that looked too worried for my liking. The hospital room still smelled faintly of antiseptic and something metallic… blood, maybe mine. The doctor stood at the foot of the bed, clipboard in hand, his lips moving, though I only caught pieces of what he said. Words like concussion, observation, and rest. My head throbbed with every syllable he spoke.Ughh. I just needed to go home. Beside him, Ellie and Stacey were already there, seated with that same look on their face. I felt bad. Things weren’t supposed to go this way but u stocked my guilt away.Ellie looked tense, biting her bottom lip like she always did when she tried not to cry. Stacey, on the other hand, looked like she was two seconds away from a full meltdown. Her eyes were glassy, her face pale. She barely waited for the doctor to finish his checkup before she practically collapsed onto me. I winced as her

CATHERINE My hands worked mechanically , stirring the batter but my mind was in a thousand different places. For one, T. That was the only thing I could think of for the past month. His silence alone was enough to make me nervous. There was no way he would just vanish into thin air, not him. He didn’t strike me as the type to give up easily, and his obsession with Ronald? That couldn’t just go away. Instead it festers, it grows and waits for the right moment to pounce. And I had a dreadful feeling that it was exactly what T was waiting for. The right moment. They hadn’t gotten what they were looking for from the failed robbery plan. That much I knew. But what was next? Lay low until everyone forgot? Or worse… wait until I was vulnerable, until Ronald was vulnerable, and strike when it would hurt the most? My mind spun faster, like a hamster on a wheel. And then it hit me. The scent of burning batter, my pancakes, I scrambled around the kitchen, desperate to put it out before the alar

RONALDNothing about the robbery sat right with me. I’d spent the last month going through every single detail, chasing every lead but the more I dug, the less sense everything made. For instance, the jewelry, the cash, every valuable. The robbers had stripped everyone clean that night, they made sure they took everything but once I dug, I found out everything a few blocks away, intact. Neatly stashed away. I had an idea the robbery was just a cover but this? Then there was the way the crew moved. Seamlessly, one moment the security team I’d vetted and paid for was stationed at their posts, the next, these so-called robbers slipped in, that you couldn’t tell them apart, the switch had been too smooth and way too professional. Were they part of the security detail all along? Or was someone feeding them intel from the inside? And then there was the warehouse. I still couldn’t shake the memory of it, the place where they kept Catherine. The whole setup had been… off. Guarding a hostage i
