The Healer And The the Wolf

ZenithThe wind is different up here. It feels sharper and a tad bit more honest. It bites my cheeks as I move through the thinning trees, Alejandro trailing behind me in silence. He has not spoken much since Inferno relayed the message, only told me what I needed to know. Koa is wounded with Silver and wolfsbane. His wounds are deep and the deadly combination as slowed down his healing.I did not hesitate. In fact, I could not afford to. The moment I heard, something ancient inside me stirred and stood up. Not just guilt or urgency, something deeper. More of a silent call. And now, under this low, silver-lit sky, I follow that call.We reach the clearing minutes later. Koa’s scent hits me first, pine and sweat, laced with something burnt. My stomach tightens. Then I see him, leaned back against a tree, his shirt torn and his chest smeared with blood. His jaw is clenched, but his breathing is uneven. When his eyes find mine, he stiffens. “You shouldn’t be here,” he growls. I step for

The Desire To Belong

KoaThe pain is dull now. Dull and distant, like a memory I have not yet decided to keep. The kind that lingers just under the skin, too proud to fade but not loud enough to demand attention. Silver and wolfsbane, a coward's poison. It burns slow, stalling the body, whispering doubt into the bones. But I am still here. And I am still breathing. Thanks to her. Zenith the most low-key healer of this century.I lie against the hollowed trunk of a pine, the scent of crushed leaves and fire-smoke curling around me. The clearing is quiet now. Alejandro and the girl are gone, their footsteps swallowed by moss and distance. But the space they left behind is still warm. No, she left warmth. Like sunlight pressed into wood. Like memory. Like something older than the war drums I have grown used to. Zenith.I did not know what to expect. The last time I saw the healer's line at work, I was barely more than a pup. A battlefield. Blood everywhere. And a woman with hair the color of stormlight whi

A Garden For The Moonlight

Zenith’s POVThe new cabin smells like cedar and rain. There is a softness to it now, like the place had been holding its breath for years and finally....finally, exhaled. Alejandro has not said much about the renovations, but that is how he is. Quiet, watchful, always moving mountains behind the scenes and pretending it’s nothing. But this? This is not nothing. The porch creaks gently beneath my feet as I step out, the sun still low enough to paint the trees in sleepy gold. Plot Thirteen hums under my skin. It always does now. Something about this land remembers me… or maybe remembers my grandmother and just assumes I will do.I turn slowly, taking it all in. The greenhouse, still being reinforced with panes of magic-treated glass, has started to gather life. Tiny pots of rosemary, marigold, mugwort. Some of the herbs I dreamt about are already here, as if they had waited for me to remember them. I kneel by a tray of feverfew, fingers brushing its leaves, and smile. He did this. Alej

Oaths in Ash and Light

Alejandro’s POVThe moon is high when I find him. Koa stands at the edge of Plot Thirteen, just beyond the reach of the porch light. He is still healing. I can smell the silver in his blood, the faint bitterness of wolfsbane clinging to his veins. But he stands like a sentinel. Silent. Unmoving. Watching.Always watching. “Still hate the porch light?” I ask, stepping beside him. He does not flinch. “Too bright,” he mutters. “And your warding spells hum in my ears.” “That’s Zenith,” I say. “She’s been drawing sigils all over the greenhouse.” Koa huffs a breath. “It’s working. Nothing’s come close.”“Good,” I say quietly. “It’s going to get worse.” That makes him turn. His eyes meet mine, sharp, and unreadable. “You felt it too?” I nod. “The illusion is weakening. Inferno’s bought us time, but not much.” A pause. The night feels heavy. Like something old is stirring.“I’m leaving in the morning,” I say, folding my arms. “There’s a list of herbs she needs. Some are rare. A few grow only

Redwood Whisper

AlejandroI leave her in the arms of morning. Wrapped in one of my shirts, barefoot in the greenhouse, she does not even notice when I slip past the front gate, because her hands are already deep in soil, whispering to herbs I have never heard of before yesterday. Zenith is blooming. And I will not be the one to slow her down. Not when she looked at me last night with eyes full of fire and said, “I want to stand beside you. Not behind you." Not when she handed me a folded list of rare herbs, her fingers trembling. Not when she whispered, “Start in California. The Emberroot... grows only where the forest remembers fire.”So here I am in Redwood National Park. Following ancient coordinates written in her grandmother’s handwriting. The first of five. “Heartwood Emberroot,” Inferno mutters inside me. “Rare. Sacred. Once used by moon priestesses to stabilize a healer’s core during awakening. But dangerous to retrieve. The forest tests the one who seeks it.” Perfect. Exactly the kind of nig

Ashes Of Black Hill

Alejandro In a day, I am already in South Dakota. The Black Hills feel cursed the moment I step into them. Not just dark, hollow. Like the land itself remembers betrayal. Even Inferno is quiet. The wind does not howl. It whispers. The trees here are blackened from an ancient fire that should have never spread the way it did. Supernatural magic clings to the ash like a scent that never washed away. I taste it in the back of my throat, iron, regret, old rage. Ashbane grows here. Rare, sacred, toxic to most, and healing to a few. Its silvery stalks only sprout near the ruins of broken oaths. And the Black Hills? They are littered with them. I travel light. My senses stretched wide, my heart tethered to the bond pulsing faintly from across the country. Zenith. She does not say anything, but I feel her anxiety rise the moment I set foot in the forest. My fingers tighten around the dagger at my side. Her fear is not misplaced. Because I feel them. Phantoms. They linger, half-formed ech

A Healer Needs Strength

Koa's POV The night feels like forewarning. There are no stars tonight. Just a swollen moon overhead, caught in a net of black branches. The mountains hum beneath my feet, the way old things do when something sacred is stirring. I have known that sound since I was a pup. And now, I know its name: Zenith. She walks through this world like she does not belong to it. Too soft, too luminous, too... good. But she does belong here. Because the earth bends toward her when she moves, the wind listens, and the herbs bloom for her. She does not know what she is yet. Not completely. But I do. And I am supposed to guard her. It is not the kind of order a man like me is used to obeying. I do not take well to being told what to do. But when Alejandro asked, no, entrusted me, I bowed my head and said yes. Because I have watched him grow from a half-starved exile to something more. Not just a wolf. Not just a warrior. The Crownless. The one they thought would die in the wild. The one the earth reme

Of Bruises And Awakening

Zenith’s POVMy hands hurt. Not the delicate kind of hurt you get from too much gardening or bumping your knuckles on a table. No, this is the sting of skin meeting earth, sweat meeting bruises, and every muscle in my body screaming, 'what are you doing' in glorious protest. And still… I want more. The stars are out now. I lie on the porch, staring at them as if they might hold the answers to questions I do not even know how to ask yet. Beside me, Koa is silent. He’s always like that after training, quiet, unreadable, but present. I think he’s proud of me. Maybe.Or maybe he’s just making sure I didn’t break a rib when I tried that last spin-kick and ended up flat on my back. I let out a breath, watching it puff into the cool night air. “That last move… was it awful?” “It was almost something,” Koa says. I snort. “High praise.”“You didn’t land it,” he says, “but you didn’t hesitate. That matters.” I let that sink in. It’s not nothing. A week ago, I would’ve flinched. Apologized. Hidd

Stormsong Mire

Alejandro’s POVThe Smokies are beautiful in the way a storm is beautiful, majestic, distant, and full of warning. The air here carries a tension that lives beneath the skin, vibrating in the bones. Every step forward feels like entering a dream that could turn to nightmare in a breath. I am soaked through before I even reach the valley.Thunder rumbles across the peaks. Inferno has not uttered a word to me in hours. That alone is enough to make me wary. The silence is not peace, it’s preparation. This place does not welcome outsiders. Especially not Crownless ones. The herb I seek, is called Mireblossom and it grows in the heart of a swamp carved into the spine of the mountain range. It blooms only during magical storms, feeding off raw energy. And right now, the storm is more than weather. It feels alive, more magical, even. The wind lashes at me, almost angry. On the other hand, rain pelts my face sideways. Lightning dances along the ridgelines in colors lightning should not wear.

Thorns Of The Desert Moon

Alejandro’s POVThe desert sings in silence. Not the silence of peace, but the silence of brewing undercurrents. It is the kind of silence that creeps between your ribs and unthreads you. By the time I set foot in the Sonoran wastelands, I understand: this land was not meant for men. It was made for things older than them.Inferno is quiet again. Not brooding, just listening intently. The wind here does not blow, it hisses. It makes me feel like it carries secrets in its wake. Not only secrets, but it also seems to carry heat that claws at my back and salt that sticks to my skin. And still, I walk deeper into it. Toward the Lunacrown Thistle. The flower grows only in places where fae magic once danced and bled. A desert bloom laced with moonlight, able to nullify illusions, hallucinations, and enchantments. A powerful stabilizer when mixed properly with Emberroot and Veinleaf. We will need it soon. Zenith especially. My bond with her hums faintly, like a string drawn taut. It feels bo
