Elara’s POVThe steady thumping of the wood being chopped by Mateo lulled me into a calm state a little bit. It had been seven months since I escaped from the Silver moon pack and the pregnancy was making my wolf act up. I’d been having small seizures and heavy migraines, and the one thing that managed to soothe it a little bit was Mateo’s chopping, so I had decided to commit to sitting around in a hammock or chair whenever he began working. The hammock was far more comfortable.I used my leg to swing the hammock, my belly bulging before me so high that I couldn’t see beyond it to know what was coming my way in my current posture, it was a good thing the pack was safe.Settling in had been increasingly easy, vand I felt like a new person , a completely different person from the woman that had escaped her pack with the hope for a new life. I had a family now, a community of people that didn’t care whether the moon goddess favored me or not, people that didn’t care if I had a mate early

Elara’s POVThree days laterI was in the kitchen, chopping vegetables for Leah, Lucan and my meal for tonight, it was a very normal thing, a small respite after Lucan came back beaten and bruised by Kael’s fists and claws. Then everything tilted. Not physically. Not to anyone else. But to me? The floor slipped from under my soul. The bond seemed to tug violently at my hair and scalp and I dropped the knife, shaken. It wasn’t just sitting there like an itch anymore. It was pressing and burning all at once. I felt the thrum of it, not just like pain, but like a distant knock inside my ribcage. A weight on me that got closer with every breath I took.I went still for a long while. “Shit,” I breathed, soft and sharp.Leah turned from the stove with her brow raised. “What?”I opened my mouth and closed it again. “Nothing. I just felt a bit faint.”But it was not nothing. And I knew I’d just lied. Not to protect Leah, but to protect myself from the avalanche I could already feel gathering

Elara’s POV“No, that won’t be necessary. I just wanted some healing”, Selene said, her voice now sharp. I could see her glancing around the ward like there was something she was looking for. Had she found out that I was here? Even if she did, why on earth did she decide to look for me? We had never been on good terms and I had expected she would have preferred it if I was dead, or permanently missing.“People that want healing are usually more sensible. Please, go to another pack for healing, we’re closed for the day”, Leah said, her voice hard as she spoke on behalf of Lera.“No, I’ll heal her. What did you say was wrong with you again?”, Lera asked, her voice deceptively cold. Eren began to squirm in my hands, I had to keep rocking on my feet, I should have walked away instead of coming to hide in here, I just wanted the full information on why she was here directly from her instead of being told by any of the other women.“Internal injuries. It’s nice to know that one of you has g

Elara’s POVThe purple slime in the cauldron rose ominously and all a sudden, it flew out of it, darting straight for me. I could see it coming at me but for some reason I was completely frozen and couldn’t move to block it or dodge.I felt a shove at my shoulder that pushed me out of the way, making the purple slime creature bounce against the walls. It was Lucan, he had pushed me out of the way.“Thank you”, I said shakily. I had no idea what the thing they had concocted was, I couldn’t feel any sort of energy or smell anything from it, but it was clearly…alive.“Catch it”, Leah yelled, jumping across the room to seal her hand over it. True to its nature, it was slippery and escaped from her grasp, jumping over to the door and squeezing under it. Uncle Ro quickly opened the door to see that it had headed over to one of Eren’s cots in the apothecary building. As though it was looking for something, it jumped away from the empty cot and ran out of the building. My heart lurched in my

Elara’s POVI woke to the smell of bread baking. For one blissful second, I forgot about the mark on my hand, the Moon Blessed, and everything Leah had said. Then my gaze fell to my palm, the faint silvery crest still pulsing under my skin like a heartbeat, and reality came rushing back in.Eren was already up, sitting cross-legged at the foot of the bed with a piece of bread so big it looked like it had been stolen. He grinned at me with crumbs all over his cheeks.“Mama, you eat,” he announced proudly, thrusting the mangled chunk in my direction. I sat up and took a bite just to make him happy. He beamed like he’d just fed me the finest feast in the realms. When we stepped into the kitchen, Lera was there instead of Leah, her hair loose for once, sleeves rolled up, the air around her humming faintly with something that made the little hairs on my arms stand up.“You’re finally awake,” she said with a smile that didn’t quite hide her watchfulness. “Good. I thought we’d start your da
