Before he can even get off the table, I’m throwing myself in front of Brax. “No,” He shouts.But he’s too late, Kai’s hands grab my shoulders, his fangs embedded in my throat. I expect him to rip it out in his anger, but his eyes grow comically wide. They flash back and forth between an ocean storm and blood red, the wolf fighting the vampire inside of him. I almost miss the halls changing from the industrial, cell block style into the abandoned house, with peeling wallpaper and squishy carpet, while looking for any sign of outside. But, Brax stops abruptly in front of the reinforced door that separated the two, opening the door the barest bit to look through.“We’re close,” He whispers, his eyes darting in every direction. “This is our last main hall, a quick turn left and we will be at the staircase that leads us to the front door.”He smiles over his shoulder at me, “I’ll get you the real earth in no time, little flower.”My laugh sounds a little maniacal, even to my own ears, but Kai’s step away only makes it worse. Lena wiggles in my lap again and it takes everything in me not to groan. I can taste blood in my mouth from where my fangs have sliced through my bottom lip, but I can’t bring myself to care when she’s willingly this close to me. Maybe I should be worried about this new beast inside of me, but with Lena by my side, I feel like I can overcome anything.Mates aren’t supposed to be real. Kai squeaks as the forest comes to life. Vines slither and dance along the forest floor, creeping steadily closer as they weave together to form sturdy walls.
