Scotty smiled at me. Then he held out his hand and shook mine firmly, as if we had just made a business deal. He looked like he had put his worries behind him now, post-haste, and that made me happy. I wanted everyone to be feeling good, really, because I knew that once this little trip was over, many of us probably wouldn't see each other again all summer.
