Dominic slumped onto the cold leather couch, empty bottles rolling across the floor. "I'm sorry… Alyssa…" he slurred, his voice rough. He repeated the words over and over, but I couldn't hear him. Dominic grabbed a bottle and chugged it down. The burn spread from his throat to his stomach, yet it was nothing compared to the agony twisting inside him. As his vision blurred, my face flashed before his eyes. He remembered the first time he saw me. At the time, it was raining heavily in Bridgemont. I had no umbrella and was soaked through, my cheap white dress clinging to me. I looked dishevelled but stubborn. Dominic pulled over, rolled down the window, and said, "Get in. It's pouring."I eyed him warily. A young, handsome man driving a luxury car seemed like a dangerous trap."No, thanks." I refused and turned to walk away. Almost instinctively, he opened the car door and got out. He then pressed his expensive jacket into my hands and stood there, drenched in the rain.

Dominic stood on the street, his gaze sweeping over the crowd. Suddenly, a figure passed by. He thought she looked like me, but the woman was walking arm-in-arm with a Castovan man. A sharp ache seized Dominic's chest as bitterness flooded through him.
