Today should be a happy day. A celebration, I thought, staring into the mirror. Instead, I saw only what I'd always seen—a plus-size witch being sacrificed to a loveless marriage for political gain. My fiancé Calous might be handsome and powerful, but he's also a first-class asshole who won't even pretend to be faithful. The kind of man who collects mistresses like trophies. He doesn't hide his disgust for me—I'm just a signature on a magical contract to him. I begged my father to call it off. Told him Calous was a cheater, that I loved someone else, asked if my happiness meant anything at all. His answer was painfully simple: as his only heir, my duty to the Coven comes first. We need their alliance—though they need ours just as badly."Evelyn, are you ready?"I turned to see Jules with her perfect blonde hair and blue eyes that turned heads wherever she went. My only real friend in the Coven. While others mocked my size, Jules stood by me, her beauty running soul-deep. Her worried ex

As soon as I shut my door to my room, I leaned against it, breathing hard. The interaction with Damien had left me a little frazzled. A vampire! The vampire! The one that there are reasons why we do not interact with vampires. He had killed a Coven leader’s son! I drew his cloak closer to me smelling it, it was woodsy pine and musk. Honestly, it smelled great, with those thoughts, I pulled it off and fling it on my chair beside my bed. What was I doing?I looked back at it again, he didn’t seem that bad. Am I just thinking that, because of that amazing kiss he gave me. Is he playing me like everyone else? He looked angry when I suggested that, even… the memory of his appendage pressed hard against me got me blushing, the mere thought, my pulse started quickening.I learned my lesson though, he was as handsome and smooth talking as Calous, who I had original thought cared about me. Once, sweet words, show kindness, only to talk behind my back, like everyone else. Although… those deep bl

I was a little apprehensive about speaking with Shaun on my own, considering how his son was… Shaun had also showed me kindness originally. Will this meeting show me who he truly is? I entered the room, and he was sitting on the floral couch eating a biscuit. He stood as soon as he saw me, bowing. “Lady Evelyn,” he greeted. There was no one else in the room, and the door was shut. So far he was keeping the same façade. “My father stated you wish to speak with me?” I got straight to the point. “Hmm, yes. I wanted to make sure you are well, I noticed you left the ball rather early last night. Your father mentioned you were not feeling well. But, was my son not polite to you?” His questioned caught me off guard, why would he care what his son was like to me? Or, maybe he was worried about me breaking off the wedding and not getting the antidote for his people. I should take that off the table now. Maybe then I’ll get the truth. My father stated not to tell him the ingredien

My pulse was still flying off the hook as I made it back to the convent. I had managed to get down to business, only to have Damien throw me for a loop again. The intensity in his eyes, the desire. I have never seen or experienced such before. The way he kissed me… I shouldn’t go back, but I promised. I’ll help him speak with my father, then I will never see him again. Then I can focus on Calous, focus on being a good wife and Coven leader. I took a few deep breaths, to regulate myself before entering the building. I made my way to the kitchen before heading to Jules. I wanted to grab a quick apple and maybe a slice of bread, I haven’t eaten much today. As I got closer to the kitchen, I heard some odd sounds… moans? I slowly crept to the door and peered in. Calous was there, but he wasn’t alone, he had Stella slammed up against the table and fucking her. “Oh… Calous,” groaned Stella, her hands tightening around his shoulders. I didn’t know how to feel about this. After yest

I awoke to knocking on my door. “Ugh…” I didn’t want to get up. I felt sore in my thighs, was that from… I can’t keep doing that. It was meant to be a one time thing, get it out of the system. Yet I agreed to meet him again tonight. I shouldn’t, I’ll just grow feelings that I don’t need or want. There’s no way he could get me out of the blood contract. I was destined to marry Calous. When I head back tonight, I’ll end it. Or maybe I should write a letter and leave it. No, if someone found that… The knocking grew louder, “Evelyn, are you in there?” It was my father. I got out of bed and threw my robe on, answering the door. “Evelyn get changed in your riding clothes, you are taking Calous around the area today.” I really didn’t want to, but this was my future, and if I wanted it not to be too bleak, I needed to put effort into this. I nodded obediently, “Of course father, I’ll be down in a few minutes.” “Excellent, and Evelyn… about yester…” he turned and left instead of
