Selene POV His expression went dark. Dangerous. “What did it say?” he asked, frowning. “It asked me to come home.” “You are already home,” he said, storming past me into the room. His eyes were blazing as he went straight to the window. “Where was it? Which direction?” “The window. But it’s gone now. It disappeared back into the shadows.” He yanked the window open and leaned out, scanning the courtyard and forest beyond. His whole body was tense. Ready to shift and chase after it. But after a long moment, he pulled back inside and closed the window. Locked it. “Nothing,” he muttered. His jaw was tight with frustration. “It doesn’t even have a scent trail.” “They don’t leave scents,” I said quietly. “They’re not really… here. Not completely.” He turned to look at me. Taking in my tear-stained face, my trembling hands, the way I was still wrapped around myself like I might fall apart.
