CHAPTER 31 — IRENE

Irene stood by the window, staring into the darkness outside. For the first time in years, she wasn't afraid of what tomorrow might bring. She had spent too long running.Too long hiding behind another name.Too long allowing the people who had tried to erase her existence to believe they had succeeded. That ended now.Behind her, James quietly placed a cup of tea on the table.“You should sleep,” he said.Irene turned around and gave him a faint smile.“I don't think I can.”James walked closer.“Because of Kieran?”“Because of everything.”She looked down at her hands.“When I first came back, all I wanted was revenge. I wanted them to suffer the way I suffered.”“And now?”She looked at him.“Now I want the truth to come out.”James nodded.“That is exactly what we're going to make happen.”Irene's eyes softened.“You really believe we can do this?”“I do.”He reached for her hand.“And this time, you won't be doing it alone.”For a moment, Irene simply stared at their joined hands

CHAPTER 32 — IRENE

Irene couldn't take her eyes off the documents spread across the table. The old property. The financial transfers.Kieran's name.Everything seemed to point back to that abandoned house. For years, she had tried to remember what happened after the accident. She remembered the impact. The pain. The sound of glass breaking. Then nothing. But now there was a possibility that the missing part of her memory had been hiding in that house.“I want to go there,” Irene said.James immediately looked at her.“No.”She frowned.“Why?”“Because whoever owned that property clearly had something to hide. And if Kieran was connected to it, there's no telling what we'll find there.”“That's exactly why I need to go.”James shook his head.“You don't know what you're walking into.”“I've spent years not knowing.”Her voice softened.“I'm tired of being afraid of my own past.”Jaxon looked at the documents again.“She has to see it.”James turned to him.“You're encouraging this?”“I'm saying we may no

Chapter 33-KIERAN

Later that evening, Kieran sat alone in his office when his phone rang.He answered immediately.“Hello?”“Sir, we have a problem.”Kieran frowned.“What happened?”“Someone was seen at the old property.”Kieran's expression changed.“What property?”“The abandoned house outside the city.”Kieran went completely still.“Who was there?”“We don't know everyone who went in, but Irene was among them.”His eyes narrowed.“Irene?”“Yes, sir.”Kieran leaned back in his chair. For some reason, the news unsettled him.“What was she doing there?”“We don't know. They searched the house for quite some time before leaving.”Kieran's jaw tightened.“Find out exactly what they were looking for.”“Yes, sir.”“And don't let anyone know you're investigating them.”He ended the call and immediately reached for his phone. There was only one person who could possibly know why Irene had gone there.Lyana.He called her.She answered after several rings.“What?”“Did you send Irene to the old property?”T

CHAPTER 34 — KIERAN

Kieran remained in his office long after the call ended. The city lights outside his window blurred beneath the darkness, but his mind was nowhere near the view.It was at the old property. The abandoned house. The place he had promised himself would never matter again.Yet one visit from Irene had dragged it back into his life.He picked up his phone again.“Get me everything on Irene.”The man on the other end hesitated.“Everything, sir?”“Everything.”Kieran's voice was firm.“Her movements, the people she's been meeting, where she's been going, who she's been talking to. I want to know who took her to that property and why.”“Yes, sir.”“And don't approach her.”“I understand.”Kieran ended the call.He leaned back in his chair.Something wasn't right.Irene had appeared in his life at the worst possible time.First, she had started asking questions. Then she became close to people who were already investigating the past. And now she had gone directly to the one place that could

CHAPTER 35 — JAXON

Jaxon stared at the photograph on his phone. The black SUV.He had seen it before. Not clearly, but enough. It had been parked across the street from the old property when they arrived. At the time, he hadn't thought much of it.Now he knew better.Someone had been watching them.“Jaxon?”Clara's voice pulled him back.He looked up.“You've been staring at that picture for five minutes.”He turned the phone toward her.“This car.”Clara studied it.“What about it?”“It was there when we visited the property.”Her expression changed.“You think someone was watching us?”“I don't think.”Jaxon zoomed in on the plate.“I know.”Clara sat beside him.“Can you trace it?”“I'm trying.”He typed something into his laptop.A few seconds later, information appeared on the screen.Jaxon frowned.“What?”Clara leaned closer.“The registration is under a company.”“Which company?”He read the name. Then went completely still.Clara noticed immediately.“What is it?”Jaxon slowly turned the laptop

CHAPTER 36 — JAXON

Jaxon drove through the dark streets with one hand tightly gripping the steering wheel. The memory card was in his pocket. He had no idea what was inside it, but after what he had witnessed at the old property, he knew it was important.Someone had hidden it.Someone had returned for it.And someone had recognized that it was missing. His eyes moved to the rearview mirror.A black car was several meters behind him.Jaxon frowned. He changed lanes. The car followed. He turned onto another street. The car turned too.His grip tightened around the steering wheel.“Damn.”Someone was following him.He couldn't take the risk of leading them to Irene.Instead of going directly to her house, he took a different route and drove toward a busy area. The black car stayed behind him for several minutes. Then, suddenly, it disappeared.Jaxon slowed down.He checked the mirror again.Nothing.He breathed out.But he wasn't convinced. He reached into his pocket and felt the memory card.Whatever was

CHAPTER 37 — LYANA

Lyana walked out of Kieran's office with a pounding heart. She didn't breathe properly until the elevator doors closed.Something had been taken from the old property. She didn't know what. But she knew there had been something hidden there.Something Kieran had never told her about. And now, for the first time, she was beginning to wonder if Kieran had kept secrets from her too.Her phone vibrated. She looked at the screen.Unknown Number. She answered cautiously.“Hello?”A man's voice came through.“You need to stop Irene.”Lyana's heart skipped.“Who is this?”“You're asking the wrong question.”“Then what should I ask?”“How much does Irene remember?”Lyana's fingers tightened around the phone.“Who told you she remembers anything?”A quiet laugh came through.“You're getting nervous.”“Tell me who you are.”The line went dead.Lyana stared at her phone. She immediately called the number back.It was unavailable. She looked around the hallway. For the first time in years, she fel

CHAPTER 38 — IRENE

Irene barely slept that night.Lyana's name kept repeating in her mind. She had heard it before. Not recently. Not in a conversation. In a memory.A memory buried somewhere deep inside her.She sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the silver bracelet she had recovered from the old property.Every time she touched it, something came back.A voice.A room.A face she couldn't see clearly. And now Lyana.Irene closed her eyes.“Who were you?”She whispered the question to herself. She wasn't sure whether she was asking about the woman she used to be or the people who had hurt her.A small knock came from the doorway.“Mummy?”Irene immediately opened her eyes.Charles stood there, rubbing his sleepy eyes. Her five-year-old son was still wearing his little pajamas, his hair messy from sleep.“What are you doing awake, baby?”“I couldn't sleep.”He walked toward her and climbed onto the bed.Irene pulled him into her arms.“Did you have a bad dream?”Charles shook his head.“I just wante

CHAPTER 39 — MARA

Mara stood beside the window of the small apartment, watching the street below. She had barely slept.Tomorrow was the day she had been dreading for years. She had spent five years hiding.Five years convincing herself that silence was safer than the truth. But Irene was getting closer. And Mara knew she couldn't run forever. Her phone sat on the table. She picked it up and stared at the message she had sent.Tomorrow. Eight o'clock. Her hands trembled. She had no idea how Irene would react when she finally heard the truth.A knock sounded at the door.Mara froze.Another knock. She slowly walked toward it.“Who is it?”No answer. Her heart began pounding. She looked through the peephole.Nobody.She stepped away. Then her phone vibrated. You shouldn't have contacted her.Mara's face went pale. They knew. She quickly locked the door and moved away from it.Another message appeared. If you tell Irene anything, you know what happens.Mara closed her eyes. She remembered that night. The

CHAPTER 40-IRENE

Irene remained by the window long after the black car disappeared. Her mind refused to settle.Mara’s voice kept replaying in her head.I tried to save you. What did that mean?Who had tried to kill her?Who had saved her?And why did Kieran’s name keep appearing whenever she got closer to the truth?Irene glanced toward Charles’ room.He was asleep peacefully, completely unaware of the danger surrounding his mother. She walked over and quietly checked on him before returning to her room. She picked up her phone and stared at Mara’s number. She wanted to call her.But something stopped her.Mara had been frightened at the café. Someone had clearly been watching them.Calling her now could put her in even more danger.Irene sighed and placed the phone on the bed.She needed to think.⸻The following morning, Irene woke early. She barely slept. After getting Charles ready, she sat at the dining table while he ate his breakfast.“Mummy?”Irene looked up.“Yes?”“Why are you quiet?”She f
