My eyes blinked trying to get used to the darkness that surrounded me. There was noise outside but I wasn’t awake enough to discern anything specifically. Peering out the window, I couldn’t see much, but a lightning bolt illuminated our empty room, confirming my suspicions that I was alone. It was barely raining now, but the claps of thunder persisted. I looked at the red digital clock on the night stand, 2:47 A.M. Where was Nathaniel? I must have drifted off waiting for him. One second I was reading in bed, the next I was here being awoken by God knows what. The noises outside persisted and I walked the length of our wing to get to the front door.
