Rino ─𖤝─ Remo burst through the doors, boots pounding the marble, jacket half-open, hair wild from the heat of whatever hell he’d just crawled out of. He didn’t bother knocking, and the guards didn’t dare slow him. They knew better. They’d seen that look before. The high of destruction, the fever of a kill still steaming on his skin. “Dad,” he exhaled, breathless with excitement, with pride, “You should’ve seen it.” I didn’t turn fully. I kept my back half to him, shoulders broad, hands clasped behind me as I stared out the window at the black stretch of our estate. I didn’t trust myself to look at him yet. He had my blood, but sometimes I wondered if he had any of my brain. Still, he came closer, stopping a few feet behind me like a child eager to show his father a drawing made of someone’s entrails. “They didn’t expect it,” he said, voice vibrating with darkness, “Not the guards, not the ones on rotation, hell, not even the Capones themselves.” I closed my eyes briefly.
