DANNY Running up that mountain, searching for Kelly, my heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. I kept calling her name, my voice echoing off the rock faces. "Kelly! Kelly, can you hear me?" I looked around frantically, swinging the flashlight beam across the trail, into the forest on both sides, searching for any sign of her. As darkness befan to fall, I got scared that I wouldn't find her. My vision had never been great at night, and navigating an unfamiliar mountain trail in the dark was asking for disaster. I kept calling her name, over and over, until my throat was raw. Different sounds came from the forest on both sides - rustling, chirping, the occasional crack of branches - and they all interfered with my desperate attempts to listen for any response.
