The palace gates were tall and golden, guarded by two men in uniform who didn’t even spare me a glance as the car pulled in. My hands felt cold, and my heart was pounding in my chest. What was I doing here? Travis helped me take out my small bag from the back seat. “Are you sure you're okay to resume work today, Liora?” he asked, concern in his voice. I gave him a small smile. “Yeah… thanks for the ride.” He nodded, still unsure, but didn’t push. Sienna waved at me from the window, and then they were gone. I turned to face the massive doors ahead of me. This was it. --- Inside, the palace was even more intimidating. Polished marble floors, tall crystal chandeliers, and walls decorated with old royal paintings. It smelled of fresh flowers and something expensive. I barely had time to look around when a sharp voice cut through the air. “You must be Liora, we've met before.” I turned to see the clipboard woman I met the first time I came to the palace. Her eyes were cold, calc

I did my best to finish all the tasks Ariana had dumped on me, but by the time I was done, I was completely depleted. My arms ached, my hands were raw and red, and my head felt heavy. When I dragged myself into the maid quarters, Nina was already half-ready for bed. The moment she saw me, she rushed over and helped me to my bed. She held my hands and frowned at the reddish marks from all the scrubbing. “I can’t believe how much work she gave you on your first day,” Nina muttered. “I really don’t like that Ariana girl. It just proves what I already think; that blood moon wolves believe they’re better than everyone. If it weren’t for this prophecy, I’d say this whole union is a curse.” Her words made me scoff tiredly. “Don’t you think Elliot and Ariana belong together? They’re both rude, condescending, and impossible to please.” Nina stared at me for a beat, then suddenly burst out laughing. I joined her, though mine was weak and hollow. For a moment, at least, the weight on my ches

When I saw Xavier step out from behind the hedge, my heart almost stopped. “Xavier?” I whispered. His smile was small, a little shy. “Yeah. It’s me.” Before I could react, Sienna leaned in with a wide grin. “So... This is the guy you’ve been talking about, isn’t it? Liora, you’ve been hiding a handsome man like this from me?” My cheeks burned. “Sienna, stop…” She made a cute face and nudged my arm. “Don’t act like you’re not happy to see him. I’ll leave you two alone.” I grabbed her hand, reluctant. “Wait, you’re leaving already?” She nodded. “I’ll wait in the car. Just… take your time. And Liora?” She hugged me close, whispering, “Your mate is drop dead gorgeous.” I rolled my eyes and shoved her lightly. “You’re impossible,” I muttered, but I couldn’t help the little laugh that slipped out as she hurried off to the car. When she was gone, the air grew heavier. Xavier stepped closer. “Where have you been Liora? I looked everywhere for you. I was really worried abo

The next couple of days, I stayed quiet. I did my best to avoid trouble with Ariana. Even before she spoke, I had already done everything I should do. Elliot did not bother me much either. There were killings in the outer towns, close to Silvermoon borders, and it was troubling. Elliot was busy tracking with the patrol wolves and sitting in endless council meetings. Could the rogues be preparing for another attack? I wondered what was going on. But with limited information, I could only do what I was here for; clean. Then Ariana went back to her pack, something about her own wedding preparations. I was glad. Because Sienna’s wedding was coming, and I was tense about asking for permission. I was her chief bridesmaid, and nothing would make me miss my best friend’s wedding. So I wrote to Helen, asking for leave for the weekend, and she granted it. I was so thrilled to be out of the Palace even if it's just for a bit. When I got home, I felt happy for the first time in a long time

I drove Sienna and Travis to the airport that morning, their laughter filling the car while I sat quietly behind the wheel. They were glowing, wrapped up in each other, ready to start their honeymoon in Greece. When we reached the check-in counter, Sienna suddenly turned to me, her eyes soft.“Thank you,” she said, stepping closer to take my hand. “For making time to be at my wedding. I know things have been… difficult for you. It meant so much to have you there.”I squeezed her fingers gently. “Of course. You’re my sister. I wouldn’t have missed it.”Her lips curved into that mischievous smile she always wore when she wanted to tease me. “So… Xavier,” she sang, tilting her head. “You two looked awfully cozy. Don’t think I didn’t notice the way he kept watching you.”I groaned, trying to pull my hand away, but she held on tighter. “Don’t start, Sienna.”“Even a blind man could see how much he cares about you,” she said, her teasing shifting into something more serious.
