Aloe's POVThe knock on my apartment door came at 7 AM on a Thursday morning, soft but insistent. I'd been on bed rest for five days, living on Maria's kindness and Mrs. Henderson's occasional check-ins, when the sound made my heart race with the familiar panic of being found."Sarah? It's Dr. Chen. I've come to help."Dr. Chen. The voice froze my blood, but it wasn't Wakes's Dr. Chen, this was a woman's voice, professional and reassuring.I struggled to sit up, my movements careful to avoid triggering another episode of cramping. "Who are you?""Dr. Linda Chen from the Denver Women's Health Collective. I received a call about your situation from someone who cares about your welfare. May I come in? I have information that could help protect both you and your baby."Denver Women's Health Collective. The name sounded legitimate, and someone caring about mywelfare suggested Blake or Sofia had found me.Which should have been terrifying, but after five days of isolation and fear, the pos

Wakes's POVThe Sanctuary Recovery Center was my masterpiece, three years of planning, fifty million dollars in construction and setup costs, and the kind of legal architecture that made conventional rescue attempts impossible.Standing in my private office overlooking the facility's main courtyard, I watched Aloe through the discrete surveillance system and felt something approaching satisfaction for the first time in months. She was finally where she belonged. Safe, protected, receiving proper medical care under circumstances that made escape both legally and practically impossible."The psychological evaluation has been completed," Dr. Walsh announced, entering my office with Aloe's comprehensive medical file."Diagnosis confirmed; acute stress reaction with pregnancy-related anxiety disorder, complicated by previous trauma and demonstrated self-harm behaviors."Self-harm behaviors. The clinical term for her desperate jump from the Hamptons estate, now recontextualized as evidence

Aloe's POVThe schedule arrived with my breakfast—printed on expensive cardstock, color-coded by activity type, designed to look more like a luxury spa itinerary than a psychiatric treatment plan.7:00 AM - Morning Wellness Check8:00 AM - Nutritional Breakfast9:00 AM - Prenatal Yoga (Optional)10:00 AM - Individual Therapy Session12:00 PM - Community Lunch2:00 PM - Group Support Circle4:00 PM - Meditation and Mindfulness6:00 PM - Dinner8:00 PM - Evening Reflection TimeEvery hour accounted for, every activity designed to sound therapeutic rather than controlling. But I recognized the pattern from my marriage to Wakes—structure presented as care, surveillance disguised as support."Good morning, Mrs. Savage." A different nurse entered my room, younger than Dr. Walsh, with the kind of practiced cheerfulness that suggested she'd been trained to manage difficult patients. "I'm Nurse Ashley. I'll be helping you transition into our community today."Community. As if this were a volun

Sofia's POVThe federal convoy assembled at 4:47 AM in a parking lot twenty miles from the Sanctuary—six vehicles, twelve agents, and one very nervous attorney who'd just staked her career on a wellness check warrant that might not hold up under legal scrutiny."Final equipment check," Agent Martinez ordered, her voice carrying the controlled tension of someone about to execute a high-risk operation. "We go in professional, we stay legal, we document everything."Stay legal. The words felt almost ironic given that half our operation involved Blake Matthew—currently under federal indictment—and me—who'd violated bail conditions to be here."Martinez," I said quietly, pulling her aside while agents checked their gear. "What happens if the facility refuses entry?""They can't. Federal warrant for wellness check of a federal witness supersedes state psychiatric authority." Her expression suggested she wasn't entirely certain about that legal theory. "At minimum, we get eyes on Aloe, confi

Wakes's POVThe call from Dr. Walsh came at 5:47 AM, her voice tight with controlled panic."Mr. Savage, federal agents are removing your wife from the facility. They have a warrant, and our legal team can't stop them."I was in my Manhattan office within the hour, surrounded by lawyers and crisis managers, watching security footage of Aloe being escorted out of the Sanctuary by FBI agents. And beside her, unmistakably, was Blake Matthew."How did they get a federal warrant?" I demanded."Judge Morrison signed off on a wellness check for a federal witness," my attorney Margaret Whitmore explained. "Once they documented that Mrs. Savage was being held involuntarily, they invoked federal protection protocols."Judge Morrison. Senator Morrison's brother, the one family member who'd never been part of our political network. The one bleeding-heart liberal who actually believed in justice rather than pragmatism."Where did they take her?""Blake Matthew's Manhattan penthouse," Heron reporte
