Carmen’s POV“Carmen, have you been crying?” Millie asked me as soon as she stepped into our living room and caught sight of the mess I had made.Wet tissues were lying around messily.I had emptied the box of tissue.I did try to stop crying, but my heart wouldn’t stop aching, and because of that, the tears wouldn’t stop flowing, making things hurtful for me.I had been waiting on Millie, and I couldn’t believe it took her this long to get back to our apartment.“Where have you been?” I asked her. “You close earlier than this time,” I added by noting correctly.I wanted her attention so badly that I had been checking the time all evening, and yet, Millie chose today of all days to come back way too late.“Did you stay back because of the crush you have on your boss?” I asked.Even to my own ears, I sounded silly.Millie dropped her handbag, came to me, and cradled me in her arms. The tears began to flow again and she let me soak her dress with it. Millie didn’t say anything or let m

Carmen’s POV“Hell no!” Sean barked loudly. His outburst was so unexpected that it took me off balance for a bit before I regained myself. He had just arrived from the meeting with the other hockey players, and the moment I said that he couldn’t have the party he announced without my consent, he flared up.Steven Noble’s driver had driven Sean to the big league and back to their mansion, which was situated in the most elite neighborhood in the city. I had seen a lot of beautiful houses, but when I arrived here, I had been awed by how gigantic and magnificent it was. I almost asked if it was just Steven Noble, his wife, and son who lived in this mansion. Anyway, I had had to wait for Sean to be taken to the meeting and back.“Sean will be going to meetings and for trainings from home for a few weeks until we are certain that he is fit to return to the big league like the other players,” Steven Noble had told me about an hour ago when Sean was away.He had sent his driver to pick me up

Carmen’s POVAgain, Steven Noble sent one of his flashy cars to pick me up.“I thought it was a onetime thing,” I said when I arrived at their luxurious home.Steven Noble was dressed and ready to leave for work while his wife had a breakfast appointment with the other wives whose husbands worked at the white house. They were both ready to leave.“As long as you are working to make Sean a better player, you are never going to lack for anything, Carmen Vega,” he told me.“But you already pay me enough and I really don’t mind taking cabs,” I responded.“Get used to being treated the way you deserve, darling,” Sean’s mother chipped me, rubbing my arm affectionately for a millisecond.I smiled a little.“Alright then, have a great day, and if Sean gives you a headache, make sure you inform me,” Steven Noble said.I nodded, and then he left with his wife.Right after, one of the housekeepers, a young girl, who seemed like she was about my age, passed by me.“Humph, lucky you,” she said. “N

Carmen’s POVBeing certain that Sean Noble’s father didn’t take his side, I gestured to the chef, and she hurried into the kitchen with deep relief.“Before any of us starts regretting anything, we should go over your schedule for the next couple of weeks before your next game,” I said, ignoring Sean’s baseless threat. He only had the chance to act this way because everyone around him scurried when he did as little as sneeze, including his former manager.“Who says I want to listen to anything you have to say to me?” Sean asked me with a sneer. The anger in his was so evident that it somehow boosted my confidence. Now, aside from the fact that I was doing this so that I could have the chance to spite Chase Maddox, I wanted to put Sean Noble in his place. For too long now, he had had his way with literally everything. He had been left unhinged for only heaven knows how long.Maybe it was a thing with hockey players where they simply felt that they could treat the people working for t

Chase’s POVI tried to stop thinking about Carmen working for Sean Noble, but it just wasn’t working.Worse, the other hockey players had made some remarks the day before when they thought I wasn’t listening, and I haven’t been able to get those words out of my mind.“Sean is going to have fun with her,” one of the players said. They were all friends of Sean Noble, or rather, the ones who worshipped the ground he walked on because of what they could get.“I don’t doubt that,” another one said.“She is just going to be like the other managers his father has hired for him in the past,” one of them said. They all burst into hearty laughter. My skin crawled and my rage intensified, but I didn’t confront them.As a matter of fact, I followed the conversation till the very end because I wanted to know what was going on, and it was majorly with Carmen because I didn’t give a shit about Sean Noble. Before now, I couldn’t even stand the sound of his name being mentioned around him, but with Ca
