Chapter 41

DARIANThe morning air is sharp, still clinging to the edge of the night’s chill. It bites at my skin as I pull on my training gear and strap the sword to my back. My body moves out of habit, but my mind’s a storm I can’t quiet. I haven’t slept properly since the weekend, since Iris.Since Zeus.I need to train. I need to hit something. I need silence, and the sound of metal colliding, and control. Just a little bit of it.But as I walk across the stone path toward the training grounds, I hear the unmistakable clang of swords. Voices shouting commands. And not mine.I round the corner, and there he is.Zeus.On the field. In front of my soldiers.Training them. He’s dressed in our royal combat black, shirt sleeves rolled up, sweat already clinging to his temples. He’s leading them like it’s his birthright. Like it’s his job.And every fiber in my body tightens.I step onto the grounds, boots heavy on the dirt. “Stop.”All motion halts. The men freeze. A few glance between me and Zeus,

Chapter 42

ADRIANThe walk to the cafeteria is usually something I look forward to. Food, noise, people. But today? Today, I feel like I’m stuck between two ticking time bombs.Iris walks on my right, Daisy on my left. Neither of them has said a word to the other since we left class. Their silence isn’t the peaceful kind, it’s suffocating. Thick. Heavy. Like I’m stuck breathing through cement.I clear my throat. Loudly. No one reacts. I slow down, stopping right in the middle of the hallway. They both pause, glancing at me but not at each other.“Alright,” I say, crossing my arms. “What’s going on?”They speak at the exact same time.“She-”“She’s being-”They both stop. Narrow eyes. Crossed arms. Oh good, now they’re fully glaring at each other.“Seriously?” I sigh. “Can one of you talk like a normal person?”“She accused me of betraying her,” Daisy snaps, voice sharp.“She did betray me,” Iris fires back, voice full of heat. “She told Zeus about the mark.”My brows shoot up. “What?”Daisy’s fa

Chapter 43

IRISWord spreads faster than wildfire on campus.Darian McAllister’s birthday is this Friday. And for once, it isn’t shrouded in complete secrecy. The buzz is almost unbearable. Whispers trail through lecture halls, across dorm hallways, over steaming cups of coffee and library desks. Even the professors seem unusually alert, as if trying to sniff out an invitation for themselves. It’s not every day the future Alpha of the most powerful Lycan bloodline opens the door, even a little, to the public. And “public,” in this case, still means powerful families, heirs to empires, the rich, the elite, the dangerous. But still. The idea that someone like me, regular, scholarship-reliant, human-Iris-who’s-not-so-human-anymore, could be on the guest list?It flips the entire hierarchy upside down.People are talking. People are watching. And I feel like I’m suffocating.I’m not sure what makes me take the side route to the cafeteria that afternoon. Maybe it’s the noise. Maybe it’s the weight o

Chapter 44

IRISThe silver dress hangs on the back of the closet door like it knows it’s the star of the night, but it’s not mine. It’s Daisy’s.She’s been obsessing over it for a week, gushing about how it would shimmer under the chandeliers, how it was made for moments like tonight. Honestly, the way she’s been guarding it, you’d think it came straight off a royal runway. She’s barely even let me breathe near it.I, on the other hand, am wearing a dress that’s a little quieter, but no less stunning. It’s a deep emerald green, the kind that looks almost black in dim lighting, but rich and vibrant under warmth. The neckline dips into a tasteful sweetheart curve, and the back swoops low, exposing just enough skin to make me a little self-conscious. The satin fabric hugs my waist and flows down in soft layers, a thigh-high slit cutting daringly through one side. Simple, but it makes a statement. “You look like royalty,” Daisy says suddenly, breaking me from my thoughts.I glance over at her. She’

Chapter 45

IRISThe dagger feels awkward in my hand now. What once seemed like the perfect gift suddenly feels… fragile. Like it might shatter under the weight of this moment.Darian stands across the room, surrounded by a group of Lycans in dark, tailored suits, laughing and drinking like royalty that they are. He fits right in, tall and poised, dark eyes sweeping the room as if every inch belongs to him. Which it does. Or will.I take a breath and walk toward him.He sees me before I even speak, and his smile, if it ever existed, vanishes the moment I stop in front of him.“Happy birthday,” I say quietly, forcing the corners of my lips to lift. I hold the dagger out, wrapped in black velvet, the steel hilt peeking out just enough to catch the light. He looks at it. Then looks at me. His face gives nothing away.Still, he takes it, slowly. His fingers graze mine, and for a brief second, the chill in his expression falters, but then he hands it off immediately to a guard standing beside him, lik

Chapter 46

IRISThe door clicks shut behind me, muffling the soft hum of the hallway. I lean against it, exhaling a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. The silence of my room wraps around me, a stark contrast to the cacophony of the party."Iris?" Daisy's voice calls out, tinged with concern."I'm fine," I reply, forcing a steadiness I don't feel. "Goodnight."I make my way to the vanity, the mirror reflecting a version of me I barely recognize. Eyes rimmed with unshed tears, lips pressed into a thin line, shoulders slumped under the weight of disappointment. What did I expect? That Darian would see me, truly see me, and choose me over duty? Over Adira? The thought is laughable.I reach up, fingers grazing the scar on my neck, the one he gave me. A bond formed in a moment of heavens-know-what, now a chain tethering me to a man who belongs to someone else. The memory of Adrian's arms around me that night offers little comfort. A fleeting moment of solace in a world that constantly reminds

Chapter 47

IRISA loud moan eludes my lips, tearing through the air, the sensation causing my eyelids to flutter close, my body trembling as downright glee consumed me, ripping off my senses in a go. “That’s it, baby, ” he praises, his voice husky, easily the sexiest thing I’ve heard. He plunges his fingers in and out of me in a slow rhythm, his low grunts filling up my ears. I throw my head back, my fingers digging into his back as the feeling consumes me whole. He holds me steady with a girl hand on my waist as he does incredible things to my body. My abdomen clenches really hard, and the tingles that shoot up my spine, alongside the euphoric sensation that courses through me, converge beneath my stomach, curling my toes. I fist his hair, eliciting a low grunt from him that sent a vibration thrumming against me. My muscles stiffen, and my nipples harden. He picks up his pace, thumb circling my clip as he brings me to the edge. With one long, hard moan, I come undone against his fingers,

Chapter 48

IRISMy lips part as my breath leaves my body in a gasp, the sounds raw and ragged. My eyes flutter as my fingers curl around the mattress, bunching up the fabric in a desperate attempt to still hold onto some semblance of self control. I can’t help but whimper, my thoughts slowing down to a pause as I struggle to keep up with the sensations that are thrumming through my body. I can’t think, and I sure as hell can barely speak. But god, I can feel. I can feel Darian deeper than I have ever felt anyone, anything before, and I can almost swear that he is far deeper than my body should be able to take. The second he slipped into me, I could feel the way my walls stretched in a desperate attempt to accommodate his length. There was a slight burn to the intrusion, and my legs trembled as I struggled to keep them open. Darian didn't give me time to adjust, and he stared down at me with dark eyes like he knew it was almost too much for me, but he didn't care. He pulls out halfway, and

Chapter 49

DARIANThe night’s weight sits heavy in my chest, tangled thoughts swirling like a storm inside me. Iris. That name flickers relentlessly in my mind. The way she looked at me. The way I couldn't look away. The pull between us, dangerous, like chasing a flame you’re never meant to catch. But part of me wonders if I should chase it anyway.I step into the courtyard, muscles tense, thoughts spinning. Then I spot Adira, waiting. Arms crossed, eyes sharp like daggers.“Where the hell have you been all night?” she asks, voice low but sharp enough to cut through the morning silence.I hesitate, then shrug it off. “Out.”She stares at me, incredulous. “Out?” Her arms cross, brows arching like she’s trying to make sense of a bad joke. “That’s it? You left your own birthday dinner. Walk out on your guests. Didn’t say a word. And now you’re standing here like ‘out’ is a valid explanation?”I exhale slowly. “I needed air.”She scoffs. “You needed air? Are you serious, Darian? You had diplomats at

Chapter 50

ADIRAHe pushed me.Again.It’s not the force of the fall that knocks the breath out of me. It’s the humiliation. The searing, blinding burn of being discarded like I’m nothing. My elbow throbs where I hit the floor, the sharp edge of the dresser cutting through skin I was too proud to protect.I blink at the ceiling, stunned. Not from impact. From rage.He pushed me. Again.Like I’m some nuisance. Some obstacle in the way of what he really wants.I force myself upright, teeth clenched. My knees wobble beneath me, legs trembling, not from weakness, but from the storm boiling under my skin. I touch my side and flinch. Wet. Warm. Blood. He doesn’t even know he hurt me.And I don’t know if that makes it better or worse.I stagger to my feet, using the edge of the bed to balance. My hand slips in my own blood on the floor. I wipe it away angrily, leaving streaks of red on the polished wood like a reminder that I was here. That I bled for this.I glance at the door he walked out of like I
