Naomi’s POV The call came at dawn, I was still sleeping when the call came in. I laid flat on bed, refusing to stand up when Mara, one of Cassian’s lieutenants, stepped into my room without knocking. The way she looked at me told me before she spoke, something had broken. “Naomi,” she said, voice flat. “We have a problem.” My stomach dropped like a stone. “What is it?” She shut the door behind her, then leaned against it with a tired strength. “Reyes is alive.” The words landed with the force of a blow I hadn’t seen coming. My pulse dropped and my hands become cold for a moment. For a second I couldn’t remember how to breathe. “No,” I whispered. “He..he was dead. You told me..” “We thought so,” Mara said. “But we were wrong. He survived the attack. He’s been laying low, regrouping. He has men still loyal to him, more than we thought.” Someone had told me once that names mattered, that the people who survived violence tended to be the kind who refused to go away. Eldon R
