BRYNN POV  The kitchen smelled of coffee and eggs, but the air was heavy with something sharper, thicker. Tension clung to every corner like smoke that wouldn’t clear.  I sat at the island, shoulders straight, eyes on my plate. The fork moved from dish to mouth, steady and mechanical. Across from me, Kade sat at the far end of the bar, his lip still split, one elbow braced against the counter as if holding himself together. He didn’t look at me, not directly, but I felt him all the same—solid, steady, silent.  Vex leaned against the counter opposite me, coffee mug in hand.
