Chapter 2. ALLIANCE. —— ♣ —— PALERMO, ITALY. DE ANGELIS PENTHOUSE. A man's screams echoed off the cold concrete walls of the dark basement. A single bulb swung above, casting flickering shadows over bloodstained tiles. Chains rattled, a sharp metallic scent of iron filled the room, mixing with sweat, fear and death. Chapter 3. THE BRIDE IN RED.—— ♣ —— Two days had passed quickly. And no matter how hard she'd tried to escape it, she was getting married today. It was her reality. The silk of the gown clung to Millicent's body like a second skin. She was covered in the Red Devils traditional bridal colour. Blood red and gold that shone under the chandelier light. Millicent looked at her dress, red for power and gold for legacy. It was the traditional bridal dress of their empire. Even at her own wedding, she was just another possession of the Red Devils. How pathetic. As she gazed at her reflection, memories of her childhood flooded her mind. She remembered being little, and always wanting to please her father. Always wanting to make herself worthy, to prove she was worthy, just like her step brothers. Chapter 4. MRS. DE ANGELIS.—— ♣ ——The air felt light as the music shifted to a romantic one. The guests stood as the doors opened, and Millicent began her walk down the aisle in the company of her father. Most people usually had butterflies on the day of their wedding, but all she had was dread. She felt like a sacrificial lamb being brought to the altar. The monster beside her was going to hand her over to the devil, the dark angel. Perhaps her reluctance was heavily expressed on her face, because beside her, her father whispered. “Smile. Chapter 5. KARMA'S SON.——♣—— Millicent left the courtyard and sat curled in a corner of the estate, trembling like a leaf. After Angelo's venom threatening words, she had fled the moment she snapped their photo. Yes, she knew he had changed. But the hate in those blue eyes, the anger, the pain… it was far more than she had ever anticipated. Ever. “God, help me out of this pit,” she whispered through clenched teeth, her voice laced with dread. Just as she looked around, she wasn't sure if she could even stay in the Estate anymore. All she wanted to do was get out. She wanted to run back to her cozy little apartment in Rome. Wanted to escape this suffocating place. Chapter 6. THE WEDDING NIGHT 1. ——♣—— As they moved in sync with the soft rhythm of the music, Angelo’s gaze swept over her. Truth be told, he hadn’t really taken a proper look at her until now. Chapter 10.——♣—— Millicent spent hours in the library long enough to make her believe she fell asleep. Because by the time she opened her eyes, it was dark and the book had somehow made its way to the ground. It had to be the drugs, no doubt. Immediately, she left the library for the kitchen, hoping to get a drink. But as she approached the stairs, she smelled food even before she could locate the source. The scent filled the east corridor and Millicent followed it with, partly because her stomach had been running on tea since morning. The scent stopped at the kitchen, and Millicent pushed the door open. It was the De Angelis brothers. Ariel was standing in an apron while he stirred something in the pan with concentration.
