Chapter 31. Community service

“Hello child. May I know your name please?” I said, leaning down to meet his eyes.“Am Isabel,” she said as she went back to pouting her lips that sat perfectly in her cute face.“Hey Isabel. Am avery and I've got this for you” I stretched my hand, offering her some oral hygiene products tied with a cute pink ribbon. This was the second phase of the visibility campaign, focused on community service initiative. We had decided to organize a day dedicated to distributing food items and offering free medical services.I made Ethan and my domestic staff come with us. I also invited dad who was still pissed at me but came nonetheless.Ethan stood there wearing his sunglasses and emitting his usual cold demeanor.Jenkins, ma Jane, a few domestic staff and a team member stood at the food and domestic items stand. It was a lovely sight to see Ma Jane and Jenkins getting along perfectly well.I made dad stand in the medical team to assist the health workers in the distribution of drugs accordin

Chapter 32. Buy- back

“As we all know, the campaign has brought so much visibility to our company. And so many investors would feel lucky to be part of the shareholders in this company” Ethan said, putting on his professional demeanor.“All thanks to my wife, Avery Blackwood,” he added, and everyone glanced in my direction.Harrison sat across the table, exuding an air of non chalance in his tailored grey suit.“I can't believe i was once in love with this person” the thought of it made me want to puke.Ethans eyes sparkled with enthusiasm but I could sense the underlying tension as he moved towards the crux of the discussion. It was a pivotal moment, that could determine not just the future of the company, but our personal lives if we allow.“Today, I want to discuss our next step,” Ethan continued.“With the momentum we've gained, I believe it's crucial for us to buy back the shares held by Harrison. As the CEO of Eclipse Enterprise, I feel the need to severe all ties to truly move forward and focus on

Chapter 33. No more surprises

“You know, sometimes I wonder what I even saw in Harrison.” I said, scrunching my nose in mock disgust, wrapped in the warmth of our bed.Ethan raised an eyebrow, intrigued “really? So tell me. What did you see in him?”I chuckled, leaning back against the pillow, feigning deep contemplation and crossing my arms dramatically“Did you notice his receding hairline? It was practically waving goodbye” I demonstrated, and Ethan burst into laughter, shaking his head.“I can't believe I didn't see it back then. I think I was too blinded by love. I mean, come on!” I blurted out in playful frustration.Ethan leaned closer with an amused expression on his face“So what's the takeaway here? No more dating guys who need hair transplants?”“Exactly! Have learned my lesson.” I said, holding up a finger for emphasis.Ethan chuckled “Love, you won't need to date anyone again. You're married now. Remember?” “Oh shit! I forgot” I blurted out. Ethan and I burst into a loud laughter that a passerby coul

Chapter 34. I'll be back before you know it

The morning light streamed through the expansive windows of our room, illuminating the space in away that felt both warm and bittersweet. I watched Ethan gather everything for the business trip. It was the first time since we got married that he'd be away and I felt a strange mix of emotions..“Are you sure you have everything?” I asked, trying to sound casual as I folded my arms and leaned against the door frame.“You know, I could easily pack you some snacks for the road.Ethan turned to me with a gentle smile in his face“Really Avery, I'll be fine. I have everything covered and I promise to call you when I can”I sighed, trying to shake off the feeling of unease“I know love, but it feels strange being here without you. Like what am I supposed to do?”He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me into a warm embrace“You'll be fine, love. You don't have to go to the office while I am away. I have everything set up for you. The staff are around if you need anyt

Chapter 35. Thought I'd give this to her

As I settled into the plush seat of the car, the world outside began to blur into a tapestry of familiar sound and sights. The chauffeur drove smoothly through the bustling streets, but my mind was elsewhere, constantly drifting back to thoughts of Ethan. Even the small details felt heavy with memories of him. Every turn we took seemed to echo with reminders of him. The absence of his presence felt palpable and I found myself missing him more than I anticipated.“Get a grip Avery!, it's just for a few days” I childed myself.Arriving at the office, I took a deep breath trying to shake off the melancholy. I passed by Racheal's office, she looked up and smiled at me.“Avery,” she called out“How are you holding up with Ethan away?” I was surprised at how she got to know about it but then I reminded myself that she was Ethan's secretary. I forced a smile, trying to mask the swirl of emotions inside me. “Am okay, Racheal” “Come in, let's chat,” she said, gesturing for me to join her

Chapter 36. Come back soon

The air was thick with unspoken tension as I and dad walked back to his car. The cheerful sounds of Ma Jane and Jenkins faded between us leaving a silence that felt heavy with unaddressed feelings.I could sense the internal battle raging within my dad, he looked so vulnerable at this moment and it made my heart ache for him.“Dad..” I finally broke the silence, glancing up to him. He had his hands stuffed in his pockets, his shoulders slightly hunched as if he were carrying the weight of the world.“Yeah?” He repliedI hesitated, trying to find the right words.“You seemed a little… uncomfortable back there”He sighed, letting out a deep breath, he seemed to have been holding.“Honestly, I don't know Avery. I thought it would be a nice gesture. But seeing her with that man.., it just caught me off guard.”“You know dad, all these emotional turmoil could have been avoided if you had just confessed your feelings to her that night. You've let so much time pass, and now it's complicated.

Chapter 37. The new intern

I arrived at the office and made my way to my desk. I noticed a flurry of movement in the lobby. A group of employees were gathered around, chatting animatedly. My curiosity piqued, and I walked over to see what was going on.I stopped in my tracks and my heart raced in disbelief. It felt like a scene straight out of a dream. She was dressed professionally “Avery!” She called out“It's so nice to see you here, Mrs Blackwood”I blinked, trying to wrap my head around this sudden twist of fate. Apparently, Emily was the new intern raycheal talked about.Knowing Ethan's curiosity, he must have done his research about Emily and Harrison before he even proposed marriage to me.How could he hire Emily to the eclipse enterprise? Then it dawned on me that the HR department do the minor hiring“What are you doing here?” I asked in disbelief“I am the new intern. I just started working here” she replied excitedly.I was shocked to see her here of all places. I had never considered the possibili

Chapter 38. Not a big deal

“Avery dear, please read this out to me. I can't find my glasses” Ma Jane said, handing over her phone to me. I looked at her screen and saw that it was a message from dad.“It's from dad,” I said.“Read it out”“Hey Jane," I began“Hope you had a lovely day. I just wanted to say thank you for all you've done for me and Avery. You brought so much joy and warmth to our lives”I paused, glancing up at Ma Jane who was listening intently. I could sense the mood in the room shift.“Your kindness means the world to me. I've come to realize that life is too short to let feelings go unexpressed, and I'd like to spend some time with you. Just the two of us. Let me know when it's convenient for you.” I finished reading the message and a stunned silence hung in the air. I looked up to read Ma Jane's expression, which had shifted from curiosity to cold astonishment. Her eyes widened slightly and she seemed momentarily frozen, as if grappling with the weight of my father's words.“Ma Jane?” I pro

Chapter 39. Ethan!

It had been a week since Ethan left for his business trip and each passing day felt like eternity without him. I miss him so much. His gentle touch, his warm embrace and the security that comes with being in his presence. I could always hear his laughter echoing in my mind, a sound that always puts a smile in my face. My thoughts drifted back to the romantic moments we shared. I could almost feel his warmth beside me, the way his arm would wrap around me.God! I miss him so much.Even after face timing ,it still wasn't enough to fill his presence“I want him so badly” I thought to myself as I let the warm water in the bath tub soak my whole body. My head is filled with lingering thoughts of ‘my ethan’ and at this point, I could not help it.I slid my hand gently to my flowers and realized I was already wet.I could not believe myself. The thought of Ethan made me wet. I have read stories on how to pleasure oneself.I slid my hands inside my flowers, gasping in pleasure. It was my firs

Chapter 40. Lucas

I was ready to pull him to a tight embrace. When I wrapped myself around his frame, I felt an unfamiliar warmth.“This isn't Ethan,” I muttered. It was Lucas, his younger brother. They shared a striking resemblance between them. Same dark hair, captivating smile that lit up his face and those warm inviting eyes that seemed to twinkle with mischief. They shared many features and in that instant of excitement, it was easy to mistake him for Ethan.Catherine burst out in laughter from behind me, clearly amused by my mistake“ I know you'd do that” she chuckled, shaking her head“Sorry about that," I said,as I pulled back, chuckling lightly and standing back to take a closer look at him.“You caught me off guard!”Avery, this is Lucas, my son, Ethan's brother and your brother-in-law” Catherine said. “Hi good to see you” “Thank you”Lucas said and handed the flowers over to me.“This is from Ethan and this is from me” he said and handed a parcel over to me“Thank you, Lucas"
