Anna's expression hardened at the mention of a possible mole. "Leave that to me. I will find out who is feeding information and deal with them personally."Kane looked relieved. "You have resources I do not. Ways of getting information that I cannot access.""Exactly. So let me handle the internal investigation. You focus on the external threats. The investigator, the businessmen who approached you, anyone else who seems suspicious." Anna moved away from the window and sat down across from Kane's desk. "Now tell me everything about these three men. Names, backgrounds, what they said to you at the gala."Kane pulled out a folder and slid it across the desk to Anna. "Maurice compiled this. Full dossiers on all three. The first one is Robert Sinclair. Old money family, runs several legitimate import-export businesses. He approached me near the end of the night, said he heard through mutual contacts that I might be able to supply certain products his clients needed."Anna flipped through

Anna's expression turned to ice. "If you want to stay alive for a very long time, Kane, you would be wise to learn to mind your own business and stop prying into matters that do not concern you."Kane held up his hands in a gesture that was meant to look placating but came across as mocking. "Come on, Anna. Do not be so dramatic. We are partners, are we not? Partners can talk about any kind of business. Personal or professional.""Our partnership is strictly professional. My personal life is not up for discussion.""But Bianca is not really your personal life, is she? She is more like... what? A business arrangement? You said yourself she is with you because of a contract. That sounds pretty professional to me."Anna took a step toward him, her voice dropping to a dangerous level. "Do not twist my words. And do not presume to understand my relationship with Bianca based on one conversation you overheard at a party.""I am not presuming anything. I am just making an observation." Kane

Anna was still holding the phone, staring at the photos of the blue sedan, when her office door opened. She looked up and saw Bianca standing in the doorway. Just standing there, not saying anything. Staring at Anna with an expression that was hard to read.Anna set her phone down on the desk. "What is wrong?"Bianca did not answer immediately. Just kept staring like she was trying to figure something out. Her hair was messy, like she had just woken up. She was wearing a robe, the same one from last night.Had she just gotten out of bed? It was almost nine in the morning now."I asked you a question," Anna said. "What is wrong?"Bianca finally spoke. "How long do I have to stay in this house?"The question caught Anna off guard. "What?""You heard me. How long?" Bianca walked further into the office, closing the door behind her. "How much longer do I have to be here?""We have a contract. Six months. You know this.""I know what the contract says. I am asking how long I actually have

Bianca felt rage boiling up inside her chest. Hot, violent rage that made her hands shake and her vision blur slightly at the edges."I am not staying here anymore," she said. Her voice came out lower than she intended, almost a growl. "I am done. I am leaving."Anna looked up from her phone with an expression of mild interest, like Bianca had just announced she was going for a walk rather than threatening to leave entirely."Are you now?""Yes. I am packing my things and leaving. You can keep your contract. You can keep your threats. I do not care anymore.""Do you remember what happened the last time you tried to escape?" Anna's voice was calm, almost conversational. "I let you go. Watched you climb out a third-story window on curtains tied together. Let you take a taxi all the way home to your father. And then I sent someone to bring you back.""I remember.""Do you also remember what I said would happen if you tried it again?"Bianca did not answer. She knew exactly what Anna had

Bianca stood in the middle of her room, her chest heaving with anger and frustration. She looked around at the perfectly organized space, at the expensive furniture and luxurious fabrics, and felt rage bubble up inside her.She grabbed the nearest thing, a decorative pillow from the bed, and threw it across the room. It hit the wall with a soft thud and fell to the floor. Not satisfying enough.Bianca walked to the dresser and started pulling open drawers, yanking out clothes and tossing them onto the floor. She did not care about making a mess. Did not care about the expensive lingerie Anna had bought her or the designer outfits hanging in the closet.None of it was hers anyway. None of it mattered. She grabbed a stack of folded shirts and threw them. Then the pants. Then everything else she could get her hands on.The room looked like a tornado had hit it. Clothes everywhere, pillows scattered, the bed sheets half pulled off the mattress.Bianca stood in the middle of the chaos, bre
