"She's stable," the doctor said quietly, watching Isaac's expression carefully. "There was a subchorionic hemorrhage. It's a clot that forms between the uterine wall and the placenta, and when it bursts, it causes heavy bleeding. It's not uncommon in the first trimester." Isaac stood still, jaw locked so tightly the muscles near his temple twitched, he didnt move from where he stood. "She fainted from the sudden drop in blood pressure and the shock. The room felt colder than it should have. Isabel stepped inside with slow steps. The air smelled like cologne and linen, sharp and clean, like it hadn’t been touched by anyone else but him. Her hand hovered near her waist, awkwardly fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. Across the room, Isaac was pulling a clean shirt over his head, the muscles in his back moving under the fabric as he finished buttoning the collar. His expression was unreadable, but he glanced at her once without saying anything, his eyes dragging over her face before dropping back to the buttons. She cleared her throat, trying to keep her voice even. “I appreciate the concern, but… I don’t think this is necessary,” she said, eyes fixed on him the entire time even though he had his back to her. He didn’t respond and so she continued. “I’ll sleep in my room,” she added, lifting her chin slightly. “If anything happens in the middle of the night, I can ring the bell they gave me, one of the staff can come.

When she asked to stay, he didn’t question it, he just opened the door wider and stepped aside. She hesitated at the threshold, her fingers curling tighter around the edge of her robe, “I can take the sofa, if that makes more sense.” He looked at her, expression blank, one brow lifting like she’d said something ridiculous. “You want to sleep on the sofa,” he repeated, flatly. She nodded once. “That’s cute,” he said. Her face flushed instantly, blinking in astonishment at the softness in his voice, she didn't think she had ever heard him speak that way, the last thing she expected was to hear him call her ‘cute,’ and with the shadow of a smile. “What’s that supposed to mean?” she blinked. She stood frozen for a moment, unsure if she had really heard him right, she just stood there in the hallway, staring at the closed door he’d disappeared behind. “Woah, what the hell was that?” she blinked a few times before she turned and walked away. She felt like she'd grown a lump in her throat, she stared at the food, completely lost her appetite by now. She stared at his bedroom door with a frown before turning the knob to hers and heading in. The next morning, she didn’t go down for breakfast. Lena noticed immediately, carrying a tray to her room not long after sunrise. She found Isabel sitting by the window, knees pulled to her chest, head tilted slightly like she’d been stuck in the same thought for hours. “Miss Manor?” Lena asked softly, setting the tray down on the table, “everything alright?” Isabel gave a small smile, one that didn’t reach her eyes, “yeah. I’m fine.” Lena hesitated before nodding, glancing at the untouched tea and toast before quietly leaving

Isabel fumbled with the zipper of her dress, her fingers trembling slightly, her mind still spinning from the way Isaac had pulled it up so casually, like it was nothing at all. She changed back into her regular clothes slowly, smoothing the wrinkles down with shaking hands, before grabbing the shopping bags the assistants had packed neatly by the fitting area. As she walked out toward the front of the boutique, she caught sight of Isaac standing near the glass doors, flipping through his phone, one hand tucked into his pocket. She swallowed and crossed the room toward him, the quiet click of her shoes the only sound besides the soft hum of music overhead. “Thank you,” she said quietly, her voice a little shy. He gave a small nod, not looking up. Just then, one of the boutique managers, a handsome man with a polished smile, approached them. Isabel sat quietly in the back seat of the car, Isaac’s coat still wrapped around her shoulders. She pressed the collar higher, trying to hide her face in the fabric, though she could feel the heat rushing back to her cheeks just thinking about everything that had happened. Her legs were curled slightly to one side, and her hand was gripping the edge of the coat like it could steady her heartbeat. She glanced sideways. Isaac hadn’t said a word since they got into the car, one hand was resting on his thigh, the other adjusting the heater settings to push warm air toward her. He looked perfectly calm, focused ahead, his brow relaxed, like he wasn’t the same man who had zipped up her dress and held her through a storm. I want it quiet and clean, no third-party journalists, just our outlets." Lena nodded, already pulling her phone out as she stepped back toward the hallway. She wasn't sure how long they'd been driving, but her nerves made every second feel slower than it should. Isaac sat next to her, legs crossed, one hand resting lazily on the armrest. His expression was unreadable, eyes forward, calm like always. But he kept glancing at her. He didn't say anything. Just shifted in his seat now and then, his eyes catching the way her knee bounced slightly, the way her thumb brushed her other palm in a small circle.
