Chapter 1Adola “You have until the end of the night to leave this town or your younger sister will die,” Mrs Henderson threatened aggressively, her large dark eyeballs glaring daggers at me.“Huh?”“I won't repeat myself,” a scoff followed after her threat. I flinched, taken aback at the severity of her hatred. It wasn’t a secret that the Henderson family didn’t give a hoot about me, nor was I accepted into their family, and Mrs Henderson remained at the forefront of this battle, one that her son wasn’t even aware of.Zyair and I met in a bar where I worked. His black card had mistakenly slipped off his pocket and he didn't notice, but after several back and forths, I located him and gave him the card. However, that was only the beginning of a new chapter for me. Our hands brushed against each other on our first meeting, eyes locked—jet black to olive green. Electric currents zapped between us, a surreal connection forming while we conversed. He was my first love. It was difficul

Chapter 3AdolaWith his hands comfortably placed at both my sides, my tough facade faltered slightly. I bit my lip nervously with a heavy weight of anxiety settling on my shoulders. I just had to slip up, and he’d know the truth. If there was anything I hated about him, it was his persistence. Pushing him away from me, I masked my face with a full blown scowl. “You must think too highly of yourself to imagine that I’d keep anything that belongs to you with me,”He flinched at the harshness and coldness of my tone, but caught himself quickly. “Then who is Keeya?” His voice was low and serious. For a moment, I feared what his reaction would be if he found out about the twins. He'd be elated to know he had them, but very furious because I hid them. And since he was also very wealthy and powerful he'd have a good case against me in court. “Why do you want to know about her? Did you become this wealthy by wanting to know everybody’s secrets?”“You know the answer already. I’m a busines

Chapter 5ZyairI uncurled my body from her, my eyes taking in the soft rays of sun that bounced into the room through the floor-to-ceiling window. Upon glancing at my side to catch a glimpse of the peaceful view of my sleeping fiancee, I slowly rose to my feet. Quickly, I covered my body with a robe, shut the door behind me and knocked on Adola’s door. Once… twice, my knuckles connected with the sturdy wooden door, but there was no response. She could be asleep or awake, trying to get a rise from me. After all, she wasn't the weak woman I knew her to be. She was tougher now, and more assertive. I liked her that way, but that aside, I had to be sure that my guest was still alive. “Adola?” I knocked again, this time more vehemently. “If you don't respond, I'll have to let myself in,” I warned, getting exhausted with the hide and seek, but silence was all I got. Pursing my lips, my grip tightened on the knob, twisting it open to reveal an empty room. Where could she have gone? The t

Chapter 7Adola My heart slammed against my ribcage while I wondered what could be his condition. “We are very capable of fulfilling whatever your terms and conditions, sir,” I assured him confidently. He folded his arms, nodding slowly. “I want to be involved in everything that concerns this project, from the demolition to the restructuring to rentals. I'll be involved in every step of the way,” he said in a way that showed he wasn't joking. This was a first. I understood that most investors liked to be carried along in huge projects like this, but he made it seem as if he was going to teach me my job.The only reason I wasn't refusing was because I cared about my business. Several times, grandma has asked me to come work for her, but I wasn't ready. I wanted to build something of my own that no one would be able to take away from me. So even if people like him decided to be a thorn in my flesh, I'd still stand tall. “There's no problem with that. We'll do everything the way yo

Chapter 9Zyair“Adola is back? She shouldn’t be back..” she roared then snapped her lips shut, pacing furiously.Something was obviously fishy but I couldn’t tell what it was. I was aware of my mother’s hatred for Adola, but it sounded like she’d go the extra mile to eliminate Adola from the surface of the earth. “Why can’t she be back?” I questioned, standing up as well.Lorna attempted holding my hand, but I moved away from her. She was the reason for this upheaval.“Because she’s a slut that will only make your life a living hell again. Have you forgotten what she did to you? She took money from me and ran away after sleeping with her boss at the club. There’s no reason for her to have anything to do with you in your life,” she ranted while father devoured his meal.As usual, he was nonchalant about the situation. This was why I never honoured the family dinner because of how it usually ended.“Mom, I know you’re concerned about me, but needn’t I remind you that I’m 32 years old
