Serena’s POVThe sea stretched endlessly ahead of us, dark and glassy under the rising dawn. The wind was sharp, whipping strands of my hair against my face as the Valehart jetboat cut through the waves. Adrian stood at the helm, his coat tight around him, eyes fixed on the horizon. Nathan sat beside the navigation console, his laptop balanced on his knees, typing even as the boat rocked. Leo sat near me, humming softly under his breath, but even his usual self couldn’t hide the tension written across his face.The island came into view after an hour, a strip of green and stone rising out of the sea, surrounded by cliffs and wild trees. From a distance, it looked peaceful.
