“Lily! I’m talking to you! You better come back here right now!” My mother’s voice pierced the calm evening air, sharp and desperate, but I didn’t stop, my sneakers hit the road in quiet defiance as I walked away from the house that didn’t feel like home I didn’t even know where I was going only that I needed to get away.
