CLARISSAFreedom tastes so damn good.I run my tongue over my cracked lips and taste both the ash from Fiona's magic that still clings to my skin and the blood from where I bit through my lip during the escape. The injury is healing right now, but the slight sting is still there. Finally, after weeks of rotting inside that cold filthy cell and bound in iron chains, I am free.I am finally free!My newfound freedom makes me want to laugh, but I can’t.How can I be happy when Louise is still back there? How can I be completely happy when I haven't finished the revenge I started? No.The time to laugh is not now. This is the time to prepare. The safehouse where I am is small and crude. It only has a single room with a dirty floor and a roof that leaks when it rains. Right now, rain is falling outside and water is currently dripping through the roof, but not much. CLARISSAI want to believe her. I want to accept the explanation and move on.But I have been lied to too many times to take anything at face value anymore.“She is my daughter,” I argue.“I know.”“She is in that cell right now because of me. I brought her into this.”“I know, but Clarissa, listen to me,” her voice is gentle now, no longer flat and emotionless. “Your daughter is safe. Yes she is a prisoner, but she is not in danger. My brother won't harm her while she is still awaiting trial. However, your case is different. You have so much dirt on you and that is why I prioritized saving you first. I hope you understand.”Understand? I do understand, but the logic is a hard truth to accept.“I will get her out,” I vow. “Once this is finished, once I have what I need, I will go back for Louise and I will save her so we can disappear together.”“Well, that will work if that is what you want.”“It is what I want.”For a long moment, she looks at me and I wonder what she is thinking. DAISYMy body is screaming at me to stop fighting, but I ignore the burning feeling, forcing myself to duck under Maxton’s swing before I pivot left and drive my elbow towards his ribs.Quickly, he blocks my strike and steps back with an approving nod.“Better,” he says. “But you pushed in too hard. Keep your shoulders still until the last second.”I nod, breathing hard, sweat dripping down my back despite the cold morning air. Maxton is one of the best combat instructors of the Lycan Royal Family and he was assigned to me after I made a request to have my fighting skills enhanced. We started our training yesterday and today, we are still pushing hard and we have been at this for about an hour now.My muscles are burning. My stomach is threatening to purge. And I can feel Liam’s eyes on me from where he is sitting on the stone bench about twenty feet away, watching every move I make like he is afraid I will burnout myself and collapse at any second. But I am strong. I am not going to

DAISY For a moment, he doesn’t say anything.“Daisy,” he finally speaks. “You are not going to lose me. Also, fear is a form of power. The fear of losing the people you love is what makes you fight because you know there is no other choice. Meanwhile, I feel there is something you are not telling me yet.”“What?”“I found something in your bag this morning. A book. I didn’t look through it, but the book seemed like something important.”My mother’s journal. That is definitely the book he is talking about.“Liam, that’s my mum’s journal,” I tell him. “The journal contains information about Trueblood powers and also about an Awakening Ritual.”“An Awakening Ritual?”“Yes. The ritual can unlock my full powers, but it is equally risky and can kill me if I am not ready.”His hand tightens on mine. “Daisy—”“I am not going to do it yet,” I say quickly. “I promise. I will be ready and that’s why I want to do everything I can to train properly and prepare myself. If your Aunt and Clarissa ar

LOUISEI feel like I am about to go crazy in this fucking cell. The darkness around me is not even helping matters and it smells so bad in here. My knees are pulled up to my chest, and my back is resting on the wall, the cold biting into my skin.Fuck.To make my situation even shittier, my eyes are staring at nothing because all I can see is this pitch darkness around me. LOUISETime passes and I don’t know if it’s just a few minutes or over an hour. I don’t know.Afterall, time doesn’t mean anything in the darkness.Eventually, my tears stop. When I lift my face, I notice that the darkness in the cell has been repelled a bit by a small bulb now hanging outside, close to the cell. That bulb wasn’t there before.Curious, I keep looking, but then, I look around, seeing the broken pieces of the stool I shattered. The pieces are scattered all over the floor.“Rough night?” I suddenly hear a calm voice outside my cell.A man. Definitely another dickhead guard who is here to throw insults at me again. However, the calmness in his voice is different from the usual harshness I always received from the other guards. So gradually, I turn my attention towards the door of my cell.My eyes land on the man standing outside there. He is not dressed in the official Royal Guard uniform, rather he is wearing a simpler gray tunic of a mere dungeon guard, lower rank with

DAISYFinally.Being back home in the Brimstone Pack after going away for just a few days now feels weird, but I had to return. My guard sent word from the dungeons yesterday. The same guard I planted in Louise’s cell, disguised as a regular dungeon guard. The thought about doing that came to me when I was studying the journal I already have and discovered that some sort of information was missing. I told Liam about it, and he helped me secure the guard and arrange the meeting. Now, I am so happy that the extraction plan worked. The guard told me everything that Louise revealed to him about my mother’s second journal. From what he explained, it seems the information in that journal is powerful and likely more dangerous than anything in the journal I already have.Meanwhile, I didn’t tell anyone in the Brimstone Pack that I was coming here today. I didn’t tell my father because I know he would have insisted on sending guards with me. The only person that knows I am here today is Liam,

DAISY According to the story my dad once told me about how he met mum way before she married him and became the Luna, he said she used to worked in the pack’s old infirmary because she loved healing people and she was good at it. Even after she married, she still spent hours there, teaching the younger healers and treating pack members who came to her specifically because they trusted her. But that infirmary is closed and it is so old now. It has been closed for years since my mother died actually. My father couldn’t bear to keep it open without her, so he built a new medical center that became the pack’s official hospital. Nobody goes to the old infirmary anymore. No one but me. Quickly, I run out of the cellar and up the stairs. The workers are still busy when I run past them through the main hall. Next, I find the back door leading into the gardens. I push it open and dart outside. The old infirmary is at the far edge of the estate, a small stone building half-hidden by over

DAISYThe question burns in my mind, and it is still burning right after I leave the infirmary and on my way back to the palace. On the road, I can't stop thinking about everything I read until I finally arrive at my destination. After parking, I quickly hurry inside and head straight to Liam's room.I hope he is there.Getting to his room with the journal safely inside my bag, I knock on the door.“Come in,” I hear his voice from inside the room.Quickly, I open the door and enter, feeling relieved that he is available. I need him right now because my head feels like it is about to explode.“Hey, are you alright?” He asks quickly, standing up from where he is seated on the bed.His eyes rake all over me.“Fuck, were you crying?” He quickly rushes towards me. “What happened?”“I-I found it Liam. I found the journal,” My voice cracks as I pull out the journal from my bag and show it to him.He accepts it, but his eyes are still locked on me, disregarding the journal for now.“Come here

DAISYMy hands are shaking so badly I can barely hold the journal.“This is insane,” I turn to Liam. “This is not real. That can't be real.”“Your mother believed it was real,” he says carefully.“My mother was dying from poison!” My voice rises. “Maybe she was—I don't know, hallucinating or paranoid or—”“Daisy.” He grabs my shoulders and shakes me, my senses instantly returning. “Breathe,” he whispers.I take in a deep breath.“Now breathe out,” he says again and I obey, breathing out calmly.“Good. Now keep looking at me,” he says gently and I obey once more, my eyes fixed on him.His eyes are so serious but also calm at the same time.“Listen,” he says. “Your mother kept this journal hidden for a reason and by now, I think we both know why. Also, look at everything that has happened to us so far. I have a curse and I don't even think about it anymore, thanks to you. Also, my aunt and Clarissa are both coming after you and Clarissa even wants our baby to be destroyed too. Does any
