ASHLEY “Are you even listening?" Lauren's voice broke through the thoughts in my head and I looked up. "Yes,” I muttered, nodding to the obvious lie. Her lips thinned and she shot her head back, her eyes narrowing. "When did you start to lie so shamelessly?” She spat and my throat knotted. My lips parted and slammed shut as I stared at her, filled with guilt. Her lips twitched up, and she scoffed loudly in anger, then lay on the bed, her back turned to me. “I'm sorry, Lauren, something has just been going on in my mind and I can't seem to get it off,” I muttered. She didn't respond to me or even move. I got up from the chair and strode towards her then placed my hand on her shoulder, leaning forward. "Lauren?” I called softly. “Go home and rest, Ash,” she muttered, and my chest tightened. “But, I–" She sighed and turned.
