Staring down, I was shaking. It took hours to catch this one rabbit. I managed to not stumble over my own paws this time. My jaws made quick work, blood filling my mouth as the game went limp. Managed to pick myself up off the floor and wander around of what was now my home. It rained and I found a cave at the base of the mountain. It was small, but it kept the rain off me. The unpleasant scent of wet fur finally went away after a day.Still, I wasn’t just battling the elements. The pain was so bad that sometimes I blacked out. I’d wake up somewhere in the middle of the forest, or worse, on the edge of the line that the Hunter had drawn. There were times I could feel my sense of self wain. The instincts to hunt, to sleep, to survive, ingrained in me despite my wish to pass into the arms of the Moon Goddess.Now, I had killed a creature. I

I stood from my perch on the rock I had been soaking in the sun. All the snow had melted, turning into a much darker and less bright landscape. The temperature warmed and though my fur thinned out, I no longer could fit in my den. Further up the mountain was a cave larger than the first. It wasn’t easy to get to, but it offered more protection and more room.Off in the distance, the birds exploded out from the trees. Something was there. Something was causing movement in my territory. Jumping down, I took off running towards the disturbance. There hadn’t been anything lately. All was quiet and I was glad. As were the other inhabitants of my territory.Jumping over a few fallen logs, I didn’t worry about my sound until I got closer. I smelled them before I heard them. It was different than normal though. The scent, although rotten, was not as strong.Slowing, I wove my way through the trees and settled down in a patch of taller grass to watch. I stepped under the canopy of the trees and it felt so much cooler under here. Even in the evening, the temperature difference was staggering. Listening to Dallas, I strolled through the trees for a while before I shifted. When I did, I shook out my fur and raced through the trees. On this side, I knew there was river that wove its way down through the area. There was also one on the other side. Both came from the mountain. Which was why the pack was called Blue Mountain.Normally, I would like to get a little closer to the pack and take a look, but I didn’t want to do it on my own. I also didn’t know exactly where their territory was and if they were sticking to the Blue Mountain lines. There was a chance that they didn’t and that would complicate things if I accidentally ran into one of their patrols.We weren’t exactly trying to be sneaky. I headed back to one of the empty shops that was serving as a base of operations. Again, it was odd, walking into a place that had been boarded up for years.
