Diara  I shook Kennis, but he wasn't moving. I screamed and cried, unable to focus on anything around me. I was lifted off him and into the arms of someone, but I thrashed, desperate to reach my mate. Everything around me became a blur. Paramedics rushed into the clearing, and I think Jane was leaning over Kennis, speaking words, chants I couldn't hear. Suddenly, we were at the castle infirmary.  I sat in the waiting room while Kennis was in an adjacent room. Jane, Tatiana, and two pack doctors were there. Someone sat next to me, holding my hand. I recognized those hands; they were Daphne's. What was she doing sitting next to me? I wanted to pull my hand away from hers, but I felt numb. The bond between Kennis and me was thinning, and something was crawling in my heart. My wolf, Dove, was whimpering, worried.  Emrys and Nina were speaking in hushed tones. The others weren't here; they were probably dealing with the aftermath of the battle.
