JAKE’S POV Something was off. Not just quiet and too calm. It seemed like everything was holding its breath, waiting for something to snap or break. Hours passed as I stayed by Ella’s bed, trying to not to focus on her breaths. I hardly was able to calm Griffin as he kept moving, making noises, and chasing things that did not exist.
