Mira's pov Austin was waiting in the garage when we arrived, standing beside the wrecked car with a grim look on his face and a mechanic in overalls next to him, holding a small clear bag. "What did you find?" I asked, my voice tight. The mechanic held up the bag. Inside was a thin strip of rubber, cleanly cut. "This is what's left of your brake line. See how even the cut is? A worn line snaps rough, frays. This was sliced." My stomach turned over. "So it wasn't a malfunction." "No, ma'am. Somebody wanted your brakes to fail." Kade went rigid beside me, his hands curling into fists. "Do you know who had access to the car?" "That's the problem," Austin said, rubbing the back of his neck. "It was parked in the mansion garage overnight. Half the house had access to it."
