Chapter 11LilianaI blinked at Gerald in confusion, wondering what on earth that was about.I had known him for barely forty-eight hours, but he didn't seem like a man that lost his cool often. He cleared his throat as if realizing himself and how odd his behavior was."You should not be doing the dishes, Liliana. We have staff for that." He pointed at the dishes.I managed to pull myself from shock and nodded."Yeah, Sel mentioned that. It's fine. I want to do it." I said, still reeling from the office exchange Gerald had just had with his subordinate. What an ass!Was this the way he treated his own men?"But you don't have to. It's beneath you," he gritted out, clearly unhappy with my choice to wash the dishes.I didn't say anything and just continued cleaning the dishes like I had been before he barged into the breakfast room."Liliana..." he warned."I said, I want to!" I snapped, shocking even myself."Why?" Gerald asked softly. The atmosphere suddenly became charged. All of th

Chapter 12GeraldI stormed out of the breakfast room faster than I could say my own name. What the hell was that? The moment I touched her hand, I felt something electric, almost celestial. And then... A voice in my head, a weird stirring, like something had awakened in me. It was faint, almost undetectable. It happened too when we first met. What the hell was happening to me?I grimaced and shoved open the door to my study a little too hard. The sound of it slamming echoed off the walls, but I didn't care. My mind was spinning.I went straight to the mini bar, grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the mini bar, and downed half of it. The burn didn't help.I didn't want to admit it, but I was drawn to her. I didn't like it. She was just a kid. My best friend's kid, whom I swore to protect not... crave.I should not be having any weird thoughts of her, but here I was, spiraling. But something in me cracked open when I touched her, and now I couldn't seal it shutI sucked in a breath."Damn

Chapter thirteen.LilianaI stared out the window of my room, trying to figure out why on earth he'd run out so fast.Gerald...One moment, we were just washing the dishes, and the next, he was pressed up against me. Then gone. Just like that, bolting from the breakfast room like something had burned him.I tried to come up with a reason, but nothing came to mind.Except Ria...She stirred the moment our hands brushed against each other. Alert and tense, pacing at the back of my mind as if trying to say something but unable to.It was unlike her, except recently when she was around him.She always was... restless whenever he was near. Was she warning me? Telling me to keep my distance? I scratched the back of my head, glaring at a particular rose in the garden below me.But if that were true, then why did I feel this... pull? This strange, reluctant attraction? His presence has not been threatening. It had been... something else. Charged. Almost libidinal. Like a current under the ski

Chapter fourteenLilianaTabitha and I spent hours talking. She'd made me lunch too and had brought it to my room.Turns out, Tabitha was a funny girl. She was only a kid, but she was hilarious and even made impressions of everyone in the house.I had not wanted to laugh, but she'd made sure she kept me laughing each second she spoke. She talked about the pack house and how everything went around.Apparently everyone was afraid of Sel and some other girl named Rita.Rita was worse because she was ruthless and mean. It was a good thing we hadn't met yet because the way Tabitha described her, she might as well be Satan. It was dinner time, and Tabitha and I had made our way downstairs.I was looking forward to talking to Gerald about my plan for revenge. There was no way he would refuse me now. Not what I had managed to come up with."I really wish I could take you round the pack, Lady Liliana. You'd love it.""Why can't you take me outside?" I frowned."You do not know?" She looked up

Chapter fifteenLilianaFor the next couple of days, Gerald was nowhere to be found. At first, I thought he was simply busy, but then even during breakfast, he'd only come down and leave before I was able to talk to him about anything.Even when he wasn't busy, he'd excuse himself from my presence like I was a plague of some sort.I still wasn't allowed out of the pack house. Security was so strict that if I neared any exit, I'd instantly be approached by a guard.I wasn't even allowed to have a phone. It was ridiculous.I felt like a prisoner of some sort.My only connection to the outside world was Tabitha. She'd become my confidante in some way.She was always ready to please, and she was the reason I knew half of what I did.I had also managed to work my way into the hearts of Gerald's men.I was closest with Sel. She was like a big sister in here. She was barely around, but that was because she was in charge of two orphanages and always had to supervise. The little time she was a

Chapter 16Liliana"Sit," he said coldly. I thought he was going to be softer today.Gerald sat at the head of the table. One of the maids rushed to his side and started to serve him.He didn't look at me. Just ate his steak like he was the only one in the room. The silence was deafening, and not just from the other pack members. It was from him.His silence was so powerful, unnerving. I felt just a little insignificant and intimidated by it.He ate his food in comfortable silence. At least for him.The rest of the crew didn't talk much after that. It was almost like everyone could tell that he was not in the best of moods. After a while, everyone began to leave one after the other, making the table grow even more tense.Soon, only Max, Gerald, and I were left at the table.Max was done eating but didn't leave until his phone beeped and a text came in.He stood up and bowed to Gerald."See you later, Lily," Max said, ruffling my hair. He squeezed my shoulders."See you later, Max." I

Chapter seventeenLilianaI stepped out of the room and came face-to-face with Landen.Gerald's Beta. The impossibly tall bastard.I had only interacted with him twice.Once on the night he was supposed to kill me and when he'd dragged me into the room on my first day here.I made sure to mostly stay away from him.He was scary, almost as scary as Gerald. He also hated me. He always clenches his jaw when angry, or smells like gun oil, or has a stiff military posture.Since being here for the past week. I had seen him almost every day, but he'd looked at me each day like he was disgusted by me, and today was no exception."What are you doing snooping around?" He asked, the scar on his face deepening as he frowned."I wasn't snooping around." I stammered, intimidated by his big build and the little hate emanating from him. He could easily snap me in two if he wanted to. It terrified me.He glanced up to look at the room I just rushed out from and looked at me again, his eyes darkened.I

Chapter eighteenLiliana.I sat in the living room watching as all of Gerald's eight henchmen got ready for their mission.Ever since I found out about their little mission, I had done everything to keep a low profile and also try to find as much information as I could on where they were going.I didn't succeed in that regard but I did find out how long the mission was meant to last.It was only for three days. Which meant, I had to leave exactly three hours after they finally left. That was all the window I had. I wasn't going to waste it like I had before. I'd mapped out every possible exit-hell, even bribed one of the maids just in case. This time, I was leaving, or I was dying trying.I had already gathered enough food to last me a week and some cash I stole from some of the guys.It wasn't much but it would do me a lot of good for the next one week."Hey, sweet pea." Cain walked up to me.He was wearing all black and aleatwgr jacket and holding his helmet."Hey, Cain." I smiled.

Chapter nineteenLilianaAs I watched The Ravangets ride off, Max appeared beside me, his cologne wafting I to my nostrils. He always smelled like jasmine. I once teased him about the fact that he was wearing a woman's accent and he'd told me it was the scent of his ex-girlfriend that had died when he was eighteen. I had immediately felt stupid for making fun of him but he'd waved me off. It made me see him in a completely different light.I glanced at him and smiled."Guess we are the only ones left here." I said with a sigh."Don't look so happy about it." he joked.I chuckled. "I'm just not used to the house being this quiet." I looked up at him.Max chuckled. "Don't worry, I'll keep you company. I already have a few things planned for us." His smile was almost contagious, but there was something behind it."Alright, can't wait.""Don't worry," he said. "I always make sure the people I care about... stay safe."It sounded sweet, but something in his eyes made my stomach knot."Come

Chapter twentyLilianaMy heart was beating against my ear drums as I watched Max take the bottle from me and put it against his nose.."Nothing." I saidThe words came out truthful enough but I was practically sweating inside."I saw you put something inside. What was it?" Although his voice was calm, he was far from looking calmI scrambled for some type of lie to say. Anything but my mind couldn't.I was in trouble. I glanced at the fridge but there was nothing in there that could help me with it. Just some beers and ice and a couple of fruits"Ice." I blurted out at the last minute."Ice?" He blinked."Yeah. I popped some in my mouth and poured the other crushed pieces in here."He didn't look like he bought a single word.Something in his eyes flickered. She shrugged, and he turned around.I followed him, panicking in my head.Did he believe me?I couldn't tell.He placed the bottle of wine on the table and poured both of us a glass and then handed me one."Drink it." He said, ey
