Chapter thirty-oneLilianaI was jolted awake by an unusual movement. like someone had dropped me.As I slowly came into consciousness, I noticed two things: the darkness surrounding me and the fact that I was not alone.Another thing was that I was moving, and it looked like I was in a car. As my eyes slowly got used to the darkness, I noticed I was tied up.I tried to move but couldn't.I glanced around, noticing the other people that were chained. Most of them looked tired and dejected. Some were even injured and in pain.It didn't go unnoticed to me that they were all also women.I swallowed as something clicked.I was in the back of a van that smelled like sweat and piss with a bunch of other women besides me.Traffickers... I was dealing with traffickers. That was the only reasonable explanation for this.A cold chill ran down my spine. So, Josephine and Peter had sold me?Rage bubbled inside me. These bastards! They'd lied to me. How could they do this? What had they truly hope

Chapter thirty twoGeraldWe were now headed for Delta. The Delta settlement. It was the worst thing after the hideout of rogues. A place that reeked of death and bad intentions, like the world's trash had been dumped there to rot.If rogues were there rot in the world. Delta settlement was the festering wound they thrived on. It had all kinds of creatures: wolves who'd abandoned their packs, humans who dealt with the darkest corners of trade, even those who weren't supposed to exist anymore. Vampires, shifters, shadow-creatures, witches. They all came here to drink, gamble, and buy and sell whatever sick thing their hearts desired. At least on the outskirts. To most, it was just another bustling, lawless city, but to me, it was a disgusting hellhole for degenerates. A settlement that was meant for every evil trade imaginable.I knew because I was once part of this settlement. Not for long, of course, but long enough to recognize the evils. The last time I had set foot here was when I

Chapter thirty threeGeraldI turned off the ignition of my bike as soon as we got to the outskirts of the Delta settlement. The place looked completely different from the last time I saw it. Less grimy and more developed.I frowned as I scanned the place. Every nerve screamed that she had been here. Her scent clung faintly to the air-sweet, stubborn, and infuriating. If those bastards had touched her, I'd paint this whole settlement red. There was a small cottage barn sitting by the roadside, its weathered wood freshly painted and its wide doors thrown open like a silent invitation. Smoke curled from the crooked chimney, carrying the faint scent of burnt pine.I was immediately drawn to the place.Considering the fact that Lilian wouldn't have much money, this would be the perfect place for her to seek shelter and maybe food.It would be a mistake on her part. Deltans were not to be trusted. No matter how gracious they seemed."What do you think?" Landen appeared beside me."I have a

Chapter thirty-fourGeraldMax, Landen, and I drove to the woods and parked our bikes just beyond an old oak tree, where the path turned rugged and wild. The night air was cold, carrying the faint scent of leaves and damp earth. Our footsteps crunched softly as we headed deeper into the darkness, looking for any sign of Liliana and her captors. My blood was still boiling from the encounter I had with the farmer and his wife. The farmer's lies still burned in my mind. Cowards. Betrayers. If Liliana trusted those venomous rats, she'd have already paid the price. Rage churned in my gut.Their fear irritated me. They were both cowards. Rotten to the core. I was sure Lilianaa trusted them. Why wouldn't she? They'd helped her out, and she'd rightfully trusted them only to be backstabbed by them.If anything happened to Liliana, I would not be so merciful. Their only grace was because I believed she was alive. The rogues wouldn't kill her knowing or thinking she's royalty. They might sell he

Chapter thirty-fiveLilianaI swallowed when the van door opened, revealing the guards.Stella glanced at me, her eyes wide.I watched as she strategically put her hands back in the chain. Two of the rogues climbed up the van and began to pull the prisoners out one by one.Stella glanced at me and gave me a reassuring nod.I smirked, showing that I trusted her.Wherever we were being taken to, I knew I could count on Stella. At least for now.She was strong. Stronger than the average werewolf. How she'd managed to break free was beyond me. And why had she not done it before I had yelled at her?I watched as she was dragged out of the van like a pig. She almost tripped but quickly caught herself. She didn't look at them. Just continue walking with her head hung low.I was next. I jumped down from the van on my own and began to follow the other girls, but I was quickly pulled aside by heavy, strong hands."Not you, princess." One of them said, his breath sending me to instant psychosis.

Chapter thirty-sixLilianaThe cell door is locked behind me, leaving me in the middle of the ground. I looked around, scanning the mold-infested cell. It didn't look like there was any way to get out of here at all.A few of the girls that had been in the van were on the floor, their hands still chained and their eyes hollow and hopeless.Just what had these women gone through to make them look so dejected and helpless? I still had determination running through my blood like an engine. I didn't plan on giving up until I was practically dead, and since I didn't plan on dying anytime soon, I wouldn't have to learn the taste of defeat.I spotted Stella at the far right of the cell. She was staring at me.She was the only one without the helpless look in her eye, and that at least gave me some semblance of hope.I rose from the ground and limped towards her. The leg that I thought was already healing was acting up again thanks to the manhandling of Parker's men.As I approached, she adju

Chapter thirty-sevenGeraldIt was dawn before I knew it. The sun was slowly creeping up from the east, illuminating the once.I had not gone to the motel all throughout last night.I couldn't sleep knowing that Liliana was out there, probably scared to death.I had ridden my bike round town, hoping to find more clues of where she could have gone, but I hadn't gotten much.I suspected it was the doing of the rogues. Not just any rogues. The rogue pack ran by Parker. I could feel it in my guts. Plus Selena's report that they had another hideout in Delta made perfect sense. What about those men that appeared to have been killed by her? They had the tattoos and markings resembling Parker himself. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I could be wrong, but it was the only lead I had for now, and I was going to cling to it until I found out otherwise.Landen and Max walked out of the motel in their leather jackets and sunglasses."Let's go." I told them not to be interested

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHTGERALD'S POVThe glass-shattering sound was deafening. The sound wasn't just a scream; it rolled in waves, guttural and strange, like words twisted backward. My skin crawled. A witch's chant? Or something worse?"What the hell was that?" I asked Max, who was as stoned as me."No idea." Max said, already unmounting his bike."Must have been the woman we'd seen up there.""You think it can be Lilliana?" Landen asked, his expression very much stoic."Go check." I said to Max, ignoring the way my body stiffened in anticipation.Max nodded and quickly ran inside to check without another word.I waited outside with Landen. It wouldn't look good if we all rushed there. I couldn't afford to raise suspicion."Are you sure you don't want me to go either?""No, you're too impatient," I said to Landen.Max was efficient and empathetic. He could easily coerce him to answer his question."You think Liliana might be up there.""I doubt it. You or Max would have smelled her." I s

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINEGERALD'S POVThe woods feel different at night, breathing like a living thing, every shadow watching, every branch whispering. My breath fogs in the air, crickets sing, and the scent of iron...something metallic drifts on the wind. Her blood. Faint now, but I can still smell it. This is the same forest where they took Liliana from me. "Wait for me." I whisper beneath my breath, "I'm coming."I step into the clearing and look down at the man tied to the old tree. The ropes cut deep into his arms from how much he has been thrashing. I watch him, silently mocking him in my mind. He can struggle all he wants, but nothing is getting him out of my trap. The merchant stares at me like I'm the monster in his worst nightmare, and he's not wrong. Max stands behind him, rolling his shoulders, while Landen leans against a nearby trunk, boots half-buried in dead leaves, watching everything with that lazy look that fools people into thinking he's harmless.I squat before the mer

CHAPTER FORTYGERALD'S POVWe leave the merchant's muffled sobs bleeding into the night. His confession gave me scraps, not answers. And scraps won't bring Liliana back.I have our next destination already in mind: the farmer's cabin. I get a feeling he didn't tell us everything he knew about the pack.My head feels too clouded with thoughts to concentrate, so I let Max drive. The truck rattles down the dirt path with the headlights slicing through the mists curling over the fields.Landen is occupied at the back seat, cleaning the dried blood off his hands using an old rag. Soon, the farmer's cabin comes into view just at the edge of the trees. Crooked and small, just like the people living inside of it.We don't bother parking quietly. Max kills the engine, and I slap the door shut behind me, marching towards the house, gravel crunching beneath my feet. I pound my fist once against the door and don't even wait for a response before barreling into the house.I watch his wife and daug
