Chapter 57 - his unwillingnessRosieI looked around and saw a deserted area that didn't feel deserted at all but alive in a way I couldn't quite explain. I blinked confusedly because I was very sure I was in... I winced when I felt a throb in my head sharply. What was that? I looked around again, and everything looked beautiful and otherworldly, like something out of a dream. The lake before me was bioluminescent, glowing with soft blues, purples, and greens that rippled across the surface like starlight. The sun and moon hung together in the purple sky, casting this ethereal twilight glow over everything.Wait… What's going on? Have aliens conquered the world? I chuckled lightly at my silly joke, but stopped abruptly when I heard a gurgling, splashing sound. I glanced toward the lake to see something small struggling in the water, drowning.Without thinking, I rushed forward and jumped into the water, swimming toward the struggling creature. The water was warm against my skin, and

Chapter 59 - We're Mates JudeI was unwilling.I was scared and afraid. So many what-ifs had been eating away at my mind, fingering their way through my brain and clouding every single thought I had until I couldn't think about anything else. What if Rosie got hurt? What if the pregnancy complications became too much for her human body to handle? What if I lost Rosie? What if I had to watch her suffer and couldn't do anything to stop it? What if—Sometimes I had to take Baby out on a ride just to calm my mind; if I said I wasn't scared about the pregnancy, I'd be lying through my teeth. When I first heard the news that Rosie was pregnant, I was extremely happy. Shocked and terrified yet genuinely happy because we were going to have a pup, a love child between us. But the moment I heard about the downside, about the risks to my mate's health, all I felt was wretchedness spreading through my entire body.Because my hands were bound. If I were given the choice, if someone put a gun to m

Jude kissed my forehead tenderly, his lips lingering against my skin. "I'll bring you another slice from the kitchen.""But that's for the others," I protested weakly, even though I really did want more cake. "We shouldn't eat it all.""They'll understand," he assured me with a small smile. Then he carefully detached himself from our cuddled position, which made me grumble unhappily at the loss of his warmth and presence. He chuckled and flicked my nose playfully. "I'll be back soon, sweetheart."The moment he left, I felt my lower stomach twinge with pressure and realized I needed to use the bathroom. I stood up carefully from the couch, one hand automatically going to support my belly, and made my way to our private bathroom. After I was done relieving myself, I washed my hands thoroughly with the soap and turned to leave. But my eyes caught my reflection in the large mirror above the sink, and I found myself stopping, staring at the person looking back at me.I blinked slowly, real

I smiled, immediately recognizing Jude's familiar cursive handwriting. When did he have time to write this? Then I noticed rose petals scattered across the floor, creating a trail leading deeper into the mansion. I followed them, stepping on the soft petals gently, and they led me toward the kitchen.Stuck to the refrigerator door was another note, and I unfolded it, feeling a smile spreading across my face.I know you'll be hungry and tired from all the stress. At least take something to eat before the real deal starts. ;)There was even a little winking face drawn at the bottom, and I giggled.I lifted the cover off a tray sitting on the counter to reveal a red velvet cake—the cake that had become my absolute favorite during this pregnancy. My mouth watered immediately. I cut into it and ate slowly, savoring each bite, while drinking the glass of juice that had been set out beside it.When I tilted the empty glass back to get the last drops, I noticed something at the bottom. Another

But I didn't let him finish. I grabbed his wrist and pulled him back down, crashing my lips against his. Jude made a surprised sound against my mouth, but then his hands came up to cup my face as he kissed me back intensely. After a few moments he started to pull away, and I wouldn't have that. I immediately wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed myself closer, deepening the kiss and letting my tongue slide against his.He groaned low in his throat, and I felt the vibration of it against my lips. His hands slid down from my face to my waist, and before I could process what was happening, he was gently nudging me up from the chair and guiding me toward our bedroom, our lips never breaking contact. When we reached the bed, he carefully laid me down on it, but I refused to release my hold on him, pulling him down on top of me. I ground my hips up against his and felt his arousal pressing against me through our clothes. The friction sent sparks of pleasure shooting through my body, a
