Since Lily was still sleeping, I decided to sleep too. When we finally woke up, Kayla was gone. She must’ve walked out frustrated after seeing we didn’t move. By noon, Lily and I were walking through the building, talking to kill time. But something felt off. The other students were staring at us. Not normal stares. Different. “What’s wrong with these people?” Lily whispered, pulling closer to me. “Why are they looking at us like that?” “I noticed it too,” I said, meeting their gazes head-on. “Or maybe they’re admiring our beauty,” Lily said proudly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I mean, who wouldn’t like us?” “Is she not the one?” “Yes, she is the one.” Whispers followed as the students pointed directly at me. “Me?” I was stunned. “What have I done?” “What is going on here?” Lily asked, her tone sharp.
