Selene’s POVWe had been indoors all day. Tom had moved from one hushed conversation to the next. Occasionally pacing around the living room. My heart raced; it all felt unreal. My eyes followed his every move. His shoulders tensed. He glanced through the window each minute. The storm had quieted now. “Stay here," he whispered. “Don’t leave the house no matter what, or I would be forced to lock you in.” I said nothing. “Did you hear me?” I nodded. He got out of the house, and in the next few seconds, the sound of a failing engine emanated from outside.I pushed the blinds an inch and peeked my face through.
