Selene’s POVI gasped, placing my palm over my mouth. “No!”Rowland staggered slightly. He squared his shoulders. An arm flew to Tom and hit him right in the face.A few people lurched forward while some watched. Both men's chests heaved.I stepped in between the two, holding Rowland back.“Pleaseee,” I whispered, shaking my head. “Pleaseee.”He stared at me, his shoulders dropping slightly.Someone gripped Tom from behind. Security walked in.“Hey!” one of the guards yelled.Security rushed in, gripping Tom from behind as he struggled.“Sir, you need to calm down.”I turned, and bile rose in my throat. “Take him out,” I said. “Send him away.”Tom laughed.“You’re really doing this?” he sneered, twisting to look at me. “To your husband?”The word made my stomach turn.“You’ll regret this, Selene,” he added. “I promise you that.”I didn’t answer.I just watched as security dragged him toward the doors, his eyes never leaving mine until the glass closed behind them.I let out a breath,

Alliance.

Rowland’s POV The throbbing pain on my lower jaw woke me up. The sun spilled in through the blinds, and my body arched. I checked the time. Eight in the morning. I rubbed my head. The memories of the previous day swept in. Selene. I scrambled for my phone; I needed to know how she was doing. Found it. I had a few missed calls and voicemails. My secretary, finance manager, and Elena. I ignored them all. After we left the clinic, we had gone to take Amira from school. She looked shaken throughout the ride. I had wanted her to pull her into a hug and let her know everything would definitely be fine. But I couldn’t. I exhaled a shaky breath as my fingers hovered over her number. I shouldn’t call. I sent a text instead. ‘Hey, how are you doing?’ It ticked once, and that was it. I rested my head back on my pillow. I didn’t even know when I had grabbed Selene by her hand and said those words. The look in his eyes surprised me, and Selene had been al

Stay away.

Selene’s POV.The morning passed by too fast. Amira sat at the back seat, nibbling at the candy I had given her. I didn’t want the school bus taking her today.I had woken up with a sudden realization that Tom was going to do anything to get us back, and I couldn’t let him use Amira as leverage. We were late, but I couldn’t leave Amira at home all by herself. When I walked Amira to her class, her teacher had just taken Amira’s hand.“Good morning, ma'am." She didn’t bother with further greetings, as if she sensed my unease.Amira waved me goodbye, while I managed a soft smile.I replayed yesterday’s event in my head while I drove to work.Sophie had literally yelled over the phone while I told her everything that had happened since she was away.“I can’t wait to get back down there and put that ex-husband of yours in his place.”We talked for long hours, and my worries slowly faded temporarily. My lawyer had advised me that staying away from Rowland was the best option now.Tom was pr

Tests.

My heart sank, and I shot Nora a panicked look. Her brows furrowed as she got up from her seat. I swallowed. “Where is she?” “She’s at the Hamston hospital." A pause. My chest heaved unsteadily. “I will be there," I said before cutting the call. “Are you okay, honey?” I exhaled, trying to steady my breath. “It’s my daughter.” She inches closer. "You should go; I will cover for you." “Really?” I asked, hopeful. She nodded, reaching for my purse on the table. “Go go, I don’t want you wasting any more time." I grabbed my bag and rubbed my forehead. “Thank you. I owe you." I rushed to the elevator, hoping to slip away unnoticed. I couldn’t wait for Sophie to come back next week. She would have known what to do. I didn’t wait for the elevator to empty. I just stepped in when the doors opened and stared at the numbers descending. Six. Five. Four. Everything was happening too fast. Just way too fast. In the parking lot, my hands trembled as I unlo

Tension in the room.

"Mr. Harold!” The school nurse looked relieved. "You are here." Thank goodness."I glanced at her. Of course she has called him too. She was his daughter after all.I didn’t like the look Tom and Rowland exchanged, but there wasn’t time to lounge on that now.The doctor stared at us through his glasses. "You are?”“Her father”The doctor tapped the clipboard with a pen. "Excellent." We would begin testing immediately."Rowland’s muscles flexed underneath his shirt. My heart thumped in my chest.“The nurse would be with you shortly," the doctor said before walking away. The school nurse placed her hand on my arm gently. “I will be going now, ma'am." Please call if anything comes up."I gave her hand a squeeze. “Thank you so much. Really”She nodded and walked towards the door.Tom stepped forward.“Why is he here, Selene?"Rowland’s jaw tightened.“Could we not do this now, please?” I pleaded.Tom exhaled, tension visible in his shoulders.“I’ll wait outside,” Rowland said; he glanced

Dad.

Selene’s POV.“Selene!” Mum walked hurriedly to me once she spotted me. She wrapped her arms around me, and I leaned into her hug, taking in the scent of her perfume. I missed her. Dad stood beside her. I broke away from Mom's embrace and gazed at him. He looked the same, but his eyes looked different. Softer. I hadn't hugged Dad in years, but this time I leaned in and pulled him closer to me. He stiffened at first, then his left arm rose to my back, patting lightly. “How are you?” he whispered. “I am happy you came," I replied. He said nothing. I pulled away at the sound of footsteps behind me. “Mr. Richard Thomson,” Tom said, “how delightful for you to grace us with your presence. Thank you for being here with us at s…” “I heard the divorce arrangements are currently going on." Dad interrupted, "The sooner the better." My eyes widened, Tom’s lips hung M.I.A., but Mum folded her arms over her chest, lifting her chin slightly. A sly smile on her lips. “Sorry?” “Yes, my

Twisted.

Selene’s POV It was evening; we had all eaten. Mum had practically dragged me away from Amira’s bedside stand. I had barely eaten a thing. We sat in the waiting area. All of us except Rowland and Tom. Rowland didn’t come back, and I had no idea where Tom went. Mum kept squeezing my hand, but I could feel her own tension under her calm exterior. I tried to focus on her nods, on her reassuring smile, but my thoughts kept spiraling back to Amira, to the test, to what this could all mean. Dad cleared his throat, leaning forward on his seat. “Selene,” My head snapped up. “I have been thinking," he clasped his hands together. “I haven’t been fair to you over the years. And I want to make things right.” My stomach flipped. Was he really saying this?” “We are here to support you in any way in your divorce process." I glanced at Mother. A smile spread across her face. She nodded in agreement. Relief flooded through me, and suddenly my eyes burned. He wasn’t fighting me

We fight.

My mouth flew open. “Don’t be stupid, Selene. You could fool my father, but you couldn’t fool me." “What do you mean, Tom?” He took a step back. "My father called me in one afternoon to tell me I would be getting married to avert the scandal around his dear and only son." He tilted my chin with his fingers. My eyes narrowed, "And when I first saw you, I asked myself. What was a beautiful girl like you doing in an arranged marriage? You couldn’t even meet my eyes at the table." I studied him, wondering where this was going. I stepped away from his touch. “Then two weeks later you informed me you were pregnant. I didn’t know much about pregnancies, but the math... It wasn’t matching.” He shrugged. “Then Amira came." He glanced at Amira on the bed. “That hair, it just wasn’t in my family. There was something different. And of course you know… I needed an heir because of my father's will. So I did a paternity test.” “Tom…” “Well… you know the rest." He inched closer t

Kiss kiss.

Rowland’s POV. A few hours earlier. I walked out of the hospital. Seeing Selene’s parents, especially after what Mom told me. Ignited feelings I didn’t want to explore. And that man. Tom. The nerve of him to show up after everything. I punched lightly on the steering wheel. Making the horn blare. I needed a distraction. I pulled up at the office. I stole a quick glance at Elena’s desk as I walked by. After the last encounter. Things had been quite awkward between the two of us. I walked to my desk. Determined to bury my thoughts in work. By the time I raised my head, two hours had passed. Papers were scattered, emails unanswered, and my mind a haze of frustration and fatigue. I was interrupted by a light knocking at the door. My secretary walked in, her brows furrowed as she gazed at the pile of papers in her hand. “Any problem?” “Mr. Rowland… there seems to be an issue,” she began carefully. I raised an eyebrow. “An issue?” My voice was calm, but my pulse

Confession.

Selene’s POV.His lips touched mine, and the world tilted.Soft at first.Like he wasn’t sure I would let him.The familiarity of him crashed into me…the warmth, the quiet authority in the way he kissed…and something inside me unraveled. I hadn’t realized how much I had missed this. Missed him.His hand slid to my waist, fingers pressing just enough to make my breath hitch. My body reacted before my mind could interfere. I melted into him.The kiss deepened.Slowly.His tongue brushed against mine, gliding over mine. Claiming me. A quiet, controlled hunger that sent heat spiraling through my veins. I tightened my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer, needing more.A low sound escaped him… I felt more than I heard. The sound sent ripples down my body.It tasted faintly sweet. His other hand moved up my back, spreading warmth through the thin fabric of my clothes. My skin tingled everywhere he touched, super sensitive to his touch.I parted my lips further, inviting him. My fingers c
