“Renzo,” the child replied. “What’s your name?”“Luciano,” he answered, a rare warmth in his voice.Renzo reached out and solemnly shook Luciano’s hand. “My mom says two men should always shake hands when they are introduced.”“Your mom sounds like a very wise lady,” Luciano said, impressed by the boy’s manners.“Oh, she is. And if you marry her, she’ll teach you a few good things, too,” Renzo added.Luciano’s eyes went wide. This little boy was actually trying to play matchmaker for his mother. “Me? Marry your mother?” Luciano asked, his voice laced with amusement.Renzo nodded confidently.“And what about your dad?” Luciano asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.“He isn't with us. Mother said he left before I was born.” For a brief moment, sadness clouded those twinkling eyes. “But if you marry my mother, you will be my dad.”He smiled brightly again, and for the sake of that serene grin, Luciano felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to simply agree to whatever the child wanted.
