_Aurora’s POV_I had paused mid-step, Damien’s voice boomed from behind me, leaving me with nowhere to go. Eyes followed me as I turned around and met his gaze. His face was blank, showing no emotion. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking, what was on his mind. Slowly, I dragged my feet towards Damien. Damien’s eyes were pinned on me and the moment I got closer, he turned around and walked into the elevator. He wasn’t going to leave me, right..? Or so I thought. I watched as he pressed the button to his floor.“Wait for me-“ I started to say but the doors were closing already. “Make sure I don’t get to that office before you.” He warned, just as the doors closed. He left me. He actually left me. Fuck. My eyes darted from the elevator to the staircase and back. “Ah shit.” At this point, I had no choice. Without thinking, I took off my heels, racing for the stairs. I didn’t know Damien much, but I knew whenever he threatened someone, he always went through t with it. An

_Aurora’s POV_The next morning, the office felt colder than it usually was. It didn’t have the usual hushed voices. The moment I walked in, eyes fell on me. It seemed like people had expected to get sacked after what happened yesterday. They weren’t expecting me to show up today. And to be honest? Neither was I. The moment I got to Damien’s floor, I shivered. It wasn’t because of the air conditioner, quite obviously not. But because of Damien. The moment I stepped in, I felt it.Something had changed in him, if he was cold befpre he had gotten even colder. And I knew exactly why.Yesterday I crossed a level of unprofessionalism. Everything he said yesterday wasn’t just a warning. It was the beginning.I hadn’t even dropped my bag when a notification popped up on my work system. From: Damien Blackwood. Subject: New ProtocolsI felt my heart drop. I knew this had happened because of me, and I hesitated to open it.My fingers hovered over the mouse for a second, like someone

_Aurora’s POV_If I knew I was going to run into this man here, I would have jumped out of the window instead of walking through the door. I would have flown. Found a new type of transportation. Anything could have been better than running into him. The words I had been about to say died in my throat.Because the last person I wanted to see—ever—was standing in front of me.Marcos.The name alone made my stomach twist into knots, anger bubbling up faster than I could swallow it.“Why the fuck are you here?” I hissed, trying to control my anger from spilling out. Marcos grinned like he owned the world, dark hair slightly disheveled, tailored suit perfectly fitted. He had his hands in his pockets, one eyebrow lifted in that irritatingly arrogant way that made my stomach twist.“Hi, babe,” he said smoothly, like I hadn’t thrown a lamp at him the last time we had seen each other wishing he would kill himself. I froze, my chest tightening. The word “babe” felt like a punch to the gut

_Aurora’s POV_I followed Damien back to his office, both our steps in sync as we walked. “Do you know him?” Damien asked without turning to look at me and my heart skipped a beat. I knew who exactly he was talking about. It was hard not to. What do I even say to that? “No. Not really.” I lied, looking elsewhere even though I knew he wasn't looking at me. “Not really,” Damien repeated what I had said, but didn't say anything else. I felt weird lying to Damien. It felt bad. Everyone knew of Marcos’ and my love story. Everyone knew how he had embarrassed me and about his infedilty. Everyone knows just how broken I was when I called it quits. It was old news.Tabloids didn't ignore information like that. Especially when we were both children of influential people. And Damien asking like he didn't know...I turned my attention to his back. I wasn't sure if he was just testing me or if he actually didn't know of my history with Marcos. But whichever it was. The person who knew

_Aurora’s POVAThe office went quiet the moment Damien stepped in.It was like everyone suddenly remembered how to breathe properly.Phones disappeared. Laughter died. People straightened in their chairs.Everyone went back to their work like they had been serious about it right from thr start. Damien didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to.His presence alone was enough.I didn’t look at him immediately.I couldn’t.My fingers were still wrapped tightly around the crumpled file in my hand. The paper had folded under the pressure of my grip.I hadn’t even noticed when I started crushing it.I only noticed when my hand began to hurt.Footsteps approached me slowly.I knew who it was before he stopped beside me.“Aurora.”His voice was calm.Too calm.I swallowed and slowly turned.“Yes, sir.”He was standing a few steps away from me.I tried my best not to meet his gaze but that was another battle on its own.His hands were in his pockets. His expression unreadable. But his eyes—His e
