_Aurora’s POV_My blood turned cold as th doorknob rattled for a few seconds and my brain scrambled for what to do.Could it be his landlord? I wasn’t sure if Nikolai even had one. A neighbor? I couldn’t tell who would be trying to get into his home like this. I looked at Elema and she looked at me.“What should we do?” She whispered and I shrugged. The best option was to ignore whoever it was right? And then suddenly, the doorknob stopped rattling.I thought it was all over and I let out a deep breath of relief.A second later, a familiar voice came through the door.“Nikolai?” Lillian called softly. “I know you’re home.”My eyes widened as my heart skipped a beat.“What the hell is she doing here?” Elena whispered.I had no answer. And for a moment I saw red.She wasn’t supposed to be here until tomorrow. So what was she trying to gain by showing up before she was even asked to?Was she trying to catch Nikolai off guard?“We should ignore her,” Elena suggested and I agreed with

_Aurora’s POV_“So what?” I asked, folding my arms tighter across my chest. “Are you going to frame me the same way you framed Nikolai?”I watched as her smile disappeared, replaced by something else entirely. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She lied and I scoffed.“Oh, please.” I rolled my eyes. “You’re a terrible liar.”If I hadn’t been there that day, I would have thought her acting was genuine. But the woman was quite terrible. Why couldn’t people just say no? You went for someone, the person rejected you, and you walked off.Was it necessary to kill or accuse them of this? I could never understand humans, they seemed to be the worst race out there. And she obviously did not care whether she was going to destroy his career or not.“I didn’t lie.” She forced out through gritted teeth and I let out a laugh. It came out harsher than I intended.“You accused an innocent man of sexually assaulting you.”“I accused a man who—”I didn’t even let her finish speaking because

_Aurora’s POV_Nobody spoke for a few minutes. Neither Elena nor Nikolai. I didn't even speak. Then finally…“What do you mean?” Nikolai forced out and I looked at Elena. She also looked like she wanted to know, her arms folded across her chest. I had never seen such a look on Elena’s face. “I told him…”My throat tightened.“…if he could make Lillian tell the truth…”I stopped because saying it out loud somehow made it real.“…I’d go back.” I completed.Elena covered her mouth.“No…” she gasped, and I nodded my head. It was the only way I could think of helping Nikolai.“He spoke to her father.” I laughed bitterly, remembering the look on Lillian’s face when I had showed up at her place.“Turns out politicians don’t enjoy scandals involving their daughters.”Nikolai’s hands curled into fists, his eyes turning cold.“You traded yourself.” he sounded like I was some sort of an object. I took a step back from him. Why couldn't be understand that I did this for him?“I made a choi

_Aurora’s POV_The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes……was that I wasn’t in Russia anymore. For a few long seconds, I simply stared at the unfamiliar ceiling. And I let out a long sigh. It didn't even feel like I had fallen asleep. To me, I had closed my eyes a few hours ago and opened them now. I wasn’t in Elena’s room. U wasn't with Nikolai.I wasn’t even in Russia. The realization settled over me like a weight pressing against my chest.America.I turned onto my side, pulling the duvet tighter around myself. It had been a few days. A few days of trying to convince myself that perhaps it had just been a dream. But I keep waking up and finding myself here. Everything hurt. My chest. My throat.Even breathing felt exhausting. That day replayed inside my head in painful flashes.Nikolai reaching for me. His voice breaking.“I love—”My hand stopped him and then me from walking away.I could still hear the sound of the apartment door slamming shut and I jerked. Don’t think

_Aurora’s POV_Damien opened the file and pulled out the first sheet. He looked my father directly in the eye as he spoke.“Texts.”He threw it.The paper fluttered through the air before landing near my father’s feet.Dad frowned, looking down at it but he made no effort to pick it up.“What is this?” he asked, like he hadn't just heard what Damien had said.Damien ignored him.Another paper. He waved in his face before he tossed this one like the last.“Pictures.” He raised another one and waved it around.“Hotel bookings.”Another.“Restaurant receipts.”Another.“Phone records.”Another.“Deleted messages.”Another.“Bank transfers.”Another.“CCTV stills.”Another.“Private investigator reports.”Another.“Videos.”Paper after paper was scattered across the marble floor and my eyes widened with each paper that met the floor. The room slowly disappeared beneath a blanket of evidence.I couldn’t move. I couldn’t even blink. My father’s breathing became uneven as his eyes searched
