GIULIA’S POV I locked up the studio late, later than I’d planned and later than made sense for someone who hadn’t slept properly in two days, but the work had kept me there, and the work was better than the alternative, which was going back to the hotel and lying in the dark, thinking about everything I was trying not to think about. I came out through the side entrance into the small parking area behind the building, the night air hitting me immediately, cool and sharp against my skin. The city was quieter at this hour back here, away from the main street, leaving only the parking area, the building wall, and a few other cars scattered beside mine. I was digging through my bag for my keys when I heard footsteps. “You’re here late.” I looked up. Matteo. He was leaning against the wall near the entrance, jacket on, hands tucked into his pockets, looking as though he’d been there for a while and was perfectly comfortable with waiting. “What are you doing here?” I asked.
